John Davey or Davy (1812–1891) was a Cornish farmer who was one of the last people with some traditional knowledge of the Cornish language. According to Henry Jenner, the level of his ability in the language is unclear, but was probably restricted to a few words and phrases. A song attributed to Davey's memory, the "Cranken Rhyme", is not known from any earlier source and is notable as possibly one of the last survivals of Cornish literary tradition.

(ca)
  • John Davey (1812–1891) Kornuallesko baserritar bat izan zen, hau kornubiera hizkuntzaren ezagupena izan zuen azken pertsonatzat jo ohi da. Hizkuntza honetan zuen gaitasuna ez dago batere garbi, baina ziurrenik hainbat hitz eta esaldietara mugatuko zen. "Cranken Rhyme" deituriko bertsoak Daveyk buruz abestu ohi zituela aipatu ohi da. Davey Kornuallesko Zennor parrokiako Boswednack herrixkan bizi izan zen, denboraldi batez Zennorren maisu gisa jardun zuen baserritarra izan zen. Uste denez kornubiera bere aitarengandik ikasi zuen. 1891an 79 urteko adinarekin zendu zen, bere jakintza berarekin bat eramanaz. (eu)
