- Die Fédération abolitionniste internationale (FAI) war ein von bürgerlich-katholischen Frauen aus der Westschweiz und Frankreich 1875 gegründeter Sittlichkeitsverein mit dem Ziel, die Prostitution und ihre sozialen Folgen zu bekämpfen (Abolitionismus). Die Gründerinnen und Mitglieder engagierten sich politisch – im Rahmen ihrer damaligen Möglichkeiten – gegen die staatliche Tolerierung der Prostitution. Daneben waren sie aktiv gemeinnützig tätig, indem sie „gefallenen Mädchen und Frauen“ halfen, ihren Lebensunterhalt auch anderweitig bestreiten zu können, als sich zu prostituieren. Die FAI war eine der ersten Organisationen der Schweizer Frauenbewegung. Ihre Mitglieder rekrutierte die FAI in der christlichen Erneuerungsbewegung der Westschweizer Oberschicht. Erster Generalsekretär war der Neuenburger Politiker , der zugleich auch Herausgeber der Vereinszeitschrift Bulletin Continental war. Ab 1877 spalteten sich die calvinistisch geprägten Frauen ab und emanzipierten sich im Schweizerischen Frauenbund zur Hebung der Sittlichkeit. (de)
- The International Abolitionist Federation (IAF; French: Fédération abolitioniste internationale), founded in Liverpool in 1875, aimed to abolish state regulation of prostitution and fought the international traffic in women in prostitution. It was originally called the British and Continental Federation for the Abolition of Prostitution. The federation was active in Europe, the Americas, and the European colonies and mandated territories. It felt that state regulations encouraged prostitution while having the effect of enslaving women in prostitution.It felt that the solution lay in moral education, empowerment of women through the right to acquire skills and work, and marriage.The federation experienced opposition from the authorities in Europe and the colonies, who were unwilling to relinquish control, and from reformers who wanted to suppress traffic of women but were less concerned with their welfare.After World War I (1914–18), the IAF was involved in discussions about League of Nations conventions on the issues, and after World War II (1939–45), about United Nations conventions.In later years, the main focus was on eliminating unjust regulations that violated women's rights. Après avoir animé de nombreuses campagnes nationales et internationales pour sensibiliser l'opinion publique aux conséquences humaines de la prostitution, de son organisation et des trafics qu'elle génère, la FAI est aujourd'hui mise en sommeil. Originalmente se llamaba Federación Británica y Continental para la Abolición de la Prostitución. La federación fue activa en Europa, las Américas y las colonias europeas y los territorios mandatos. Consideraba que las regulaciones de los estados alentaban la prostitución y que tenían el efecto de esclavizar a las mujeres prostituidas. Defendía que la solución estaba en la educación ética, el empoderamiento de las mujeres a través del derecho a adquirir habilidades y trabajo, y el matrimonio.
