- Illubabor (ኢሉባቦር, von Oromo Illuu Baaboor) war eine Provinz im Südwesten Äthiopiens, an der Grenze zum Sudan. Die Provinz wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts nach der Eroberung und Eingliederung des Gebietes in das Kaiserreich Abessinien gegründet. Ihre Hauptstadt war bis 1978 , danach wurde neue Hauptstadt. Neben Gebieten im südlichen Hochland, die das Kerngebiet der Provinz bildeten, umfasste Illubabor auch Gambela, das geographisch zur sudanesischen Tiefebene gehört. Gambela wurde 1987 als eigene Provinz von Illubabor abgetrennt. Der Osten von Illubabor gehört zum historischen Gibe-Gebiet. Mit der Reform der Verwaltungsgliederung Äthiopiens nach 1991 wurde das Gebiet von Illubabor auf die ethnisch definierten Regionen Oromia, Gambela und die Region der südlichen Nationen, Nationalitäten und Völker aufgeteilt. Eine Zone der Region Oromia trägt weiterhin den Namen Illubabor-Zone. - Illubabor (Amharic: ኢሉባቦር) was a province in the south-western part of Ethiopia, along the border with Sudan. The name Illubabor is said to come from two Oromo words, "Illu" and "Abba Bor(a)". "Illu" is a name of a clan, and "Abba Bor" was the horse name of , who founded the ruling family of the area when it was conquered by Shewa; hence IlluAbabor means the Illu belonging to Ababor(a). Originally, its capital city was Gore, then around 1978 the capital was moved to Metu. With the adoption of new constitution in 1995, the territory of Illubabor was divided between the Gambela, Oromia and the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Regions of Ethiopia. (en)
