- Hurikán Nicole byla tropická cyklóna, která se zformovala 4. října 2016 v Atlantském oceánu. 6. října 2016 se bouře proměnila na hurikán, který místy dosahoval rychlosti větru 2. kategorie hurikánů. Hurikán se během své cesty stočil na jih a síla hurikánu se následně snížila na úroveň tropické bouře. Později se tropická bouře Nicole obrátila na sever a 11. října dosáhla opět síly hurikánu. Brzy dosáhl hurikán síly 2. kategorie a 13. října dosáhl síly 4. kategorie. Odpoledne 13. října 2016 zasáhl hurikán Bermudy s rychlostí větru 3. a následně 2. kategorie. Večer 13. října hurikán výrazně zeslábl. Odpoledne 15. října se bouře Nicole opět proměnila v hurikán s rychlostí 140 km/h, tedy 1. kategorie a místy 2. kategorie. U Grónska se bouře nakonec 18. října vytratila. Hurikán Nicole zabil 2 osoby, ale celkové materiální škody byly odhadnuty jen na 15 milionů dolarů, čímž se řadí mezi méně destruktivní hurikány. (cs)

Er war der 14. benannte Sturm, der sechste Hurrikan und der dritte schwere Hurrikan in der aktiven atlantischen Hurrikansaison 2016. Nicole entstand im Mittelatlantik am 4. Oktober. Der kleine, sich langsam bewegende Sturm entwickelte sich stetig trotz starken Windscherungen und intensivierte sich am 7. Oktober rasch zu einem Kategorie-2-Hurrikan. Der Windscherung geschuldet, reduzierte sich die Stärke des Sturms am 8. Oktober zu einem kleinen tropischen Sturm. Nicole intensivierte sich als er sich Richtung Bermuda zurückzog und erreichte Kategorie-4-Status. Das Auge des Sturms erreichte Bermuda schlussendlich am 13. Oktober als Kategorie-3-Hurrikan. In Folge des Sturms mussten Schulen, Betriebe und die Büros der öffentlichen Verwaltung und Regierung geschlossen werden. Zusätzlich wurden sämtliche Flug-, Bus- und Fährverbindungen unterbrochen. - Hurricane Nicole was the first major hurricane to directly impact Bermuda since Hurricane Fabian in 2003 and equally one of the strongest hurricanes to do so. The fourteenth named storm, sixth hurricane, and third major hurricane of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season, Nicole formed in the central Atlantic on October 4. The small, slow-moving storm defied forecasts by steadily organizing despite strong wind shear, and it rapidly intensified to a Category 2 hurricane on October 7. The wind shear finally took its toll by October 8, reducing Nicole to a minimal tropical storm, as a building high pressure system forced the storm southward. Intensification began once again as the storm retreated toward Bermuda, and Nicole reached its peak intensity early on October 13 as a Category 4 hurricane with 140 mph (220 km/h) winds. Shortly thereafter, increased vertical wind shear weakened the storm to Category 3, and the eye passed over Bermuda later that day. Afterward, Nicole accelerated northeastwards while gradually weakening, but significantly expanding in size as it traversed the Northern Atlantic. By October 18, decreasing sea surface temperatures caused the large hurricane to become extratropical as it accelerated northwards toward Greenland. The storm's approach and eventual impact on Bermuda forced schools, businesses, and government offices to close, while flight, bus, and ferry services were interrupted. One person drowned due to large swells that Nicole generated along its track that washed ashore along the East Coast of the United States. On the island of Bermuda, several people were injured, but no life-threatening injuries were reported. Overall, damage from Nicole amounted up to $15 million, which was less than what was anticipated. (en)
- L’ouragan Nicole est le quinzième cyclone tropical de la saison 2016 dans l'Atlantique nord, le quatorzième à recevoir un nom, le sixième à atteindre le niveau d'ouragan et le troisième à devenir un ouragan majeur (catégorie 3 et plus de l'échelle de Saffir-Simpson). Débutant comme un amas disparate d'orages à l'est des Petites Antilles le 1er octobre, il lui faudra attendre le 6 octobre pour passer au niveau d'ouragan à cause de la présence de l'ouragan Matthew plus à l'ouest. Nicole redescend même brièvement au niveau de tempête tropicale le 7 octobre mais le 9 octobre, elle a une chance de se redévelopper au sud des Bermudes quand Matthew se fusionne avec une dépression remontant vers les provinces de l'Atlantique du Canada. Elle atteint alors rapidement la catégorie 4 et se dirige vers l'archipel qu'elle frappe le 13 octobre à la catégorie 3. S'éloignant ensuite vers le nord-est, Nicole maintient son statut d'ouragan, même dans des conditions adverses, jusqu'à un millier de kilomètres au sud-est de Terre-Neuve. Après son passage à une dépression extra-tropicale, elle se joindra finalement à un système des latitudes moyennes, sortant du Labrador le 18 octobre, pour aller donner une importante tempête sur la côte est du Groenland.
