- Die Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (HCLU, Ungarisch: Társaság a Szabadságjogokért, abgekürzt TASZ, deutsch: Ungarische Union für bürgerliche Freiheiten) ist eine 1994 gegründete ungarische Nichtregierungsorganisation, die sich für die Verteidigung der Bürgerrechte in Ungarn einsetzt. Aktuell verteidigt die HCLU die Rechte von Journalisten und Oppositionellen gegen die Maßnahmen der ungarischen Regierung (Kabinett Orbán IV) zur Ausspionierung von Journalisten in Ungarn ohne richterlichen Beschluss. Die HCLU sieht die Nutzung der Spionage-Software gegen Medienvertreter und Oppositionspolitiker als eklatanten Gesetzesbruch an. Die fehlende unabhängige Kontrolle von Überwachungsmaßnahmen, die in Ungarn von einem Richter oder dem Justizministerium angeordnet werden können, bedeute eine Verletzung von Grundrechten und ermögliche politisch motivierten Missbrauch. Since its foundation in 1994, it has been working for everybody being informed about their fundamental human rights and empowered to enforce it against the undue interference by those in position of public power. HCLU monitors legislation, pursues strategic litigation, provides free legal aid assistance in more than 2500 cases per year, provides trainings and launches awareness raising media campaigns in order to mobilize the public. It stands by citizens unable to defend themselves, assisting them in protecting their basic rights. It is present at courts, national and international conferences, universities, in the capital and at the countryside. (en)
