- Στην ελληνική μυθολογία με το όνομα Ιππόθους ή Ιππόθοος (ασυναίρετη μορφή) είναι κυρίως γνωστός ο 11ος μυθικός βασιλιάς της Αρκαδίας. Ανέβηκε στον θρόνο όταν ο προηγούμενος βασιλιάς, ο Αγαπήνορας, όταν γύριζε από την Τροία έχοντας οδηγήσει τους Αρκάδες στον Τρωικό πόλεμο, μετά από μεγάλη θαλασσοταραχή έφτασε στην Κύπρο και εγκαταστάθηκε μόνιμα εκεί. Γιος και διάδοχός του ήταν ο Αίπυτος. Επίσης, με το ίδιο όνομα αναφέρονται και τα παρακάτω έξι πρόσωπα της ελληνικής μυθολογίας: 1.
* Γιος του Λήθου και εγγονός του Πελασγού, που ηγήθηκε του εκστρατευτικού σώματος των Πελασγών (από τη Λάρισα) στον Τρωικό Πόλεμο μαζί με τον αδελφό του Πύλαιο, και σκοτώθηκε από τον Αίαντα. 2.
* Γιος της Νεαίρας, θυγατέρας του Αυτολύκου. Αυτός ο Ιππόθους σκοτώθηκε από τον Τήλεφο, ο οποίος ήταν πρώτος του (αφού ήταν γιος της , αδελφής της Νεαίρας). 3.
* Γιος του θεού Ποσειδώνα και της Αλόπης, κόρης του Κερκύονα. Καθώς ήταν νόθος, όταν ανακαλύφθηκε εγκαταλείφθηκε στα βουνά και τον θήλασαν ζώα, ενώ η μητέρα του εκτελέσθηκε. Μετά τη θανάτωση του Κερκύονα από τον Θησέα, ο Ιπποθόων, μεγάλος πια και γνωρίζοντας την καταγωγή του, του ζήτησε το βασίλειο του παππού του. Ο Θησέας, που γνώριζε πως ο Ιπποθόων ήταν γιος του Ποσειδώνα, δέχθηκε, καθώς και ο ίδιος κατά μία εκδοχή ήταν γιος του θεού της θάλασσας. Αυτός ο Ιππόθους είναι γνωστότερος ως Ιπποθόωντας (βλ.λ.). 4.
* Ο ένας από τους 50 γιους του Αιγύπτου. Ο Ιππόθοος πήρε ως σύζυγό του τη Δαναΐδα Γόργη, η οποία τον δολοφόνησε την πρώτη νύχτα του γάμου, όπως έπραξαν και οι 48 από τις αδελφές της (βλ. Δαναΐδες). 5.
* Ο ένας από τους γιους του Ιπποκόωντα (Βιβλιοθήκη Απολλοδώρου, Γ΄ 10, 5). Τον σκότωσε, μαζί με τον πατέρα του και τα 11 αδέλφια του, ο Ηρακλής. 6.

* Hippothous, an Egyptian prince as one of the sons of King Aegyptus. He suffered the same fate as his other brothers, save Lynceus, when they were slain on their wedding night by their wives who obeyed the command of their father King Danaus of Libya. Hippothous was the son of Aegyptus by an Arabian woman and thus full brother of Istrus, Chalcodon, Agenor, Chaetus, Diocorystes, Alces, Alcmenor, Euchenor and Hippolytus. In some accounts, he could be a son of Aegyptus either by Eurryroe, daughter of the river-god Nilus, or , daughter of King Agenor of Tyre. Hippothous married the Danaid Gorge, daughter of Danaus either by the hamadryads Atlanteia or Phoebe.
* Hippothous, son of Poseidon and Alope, daughter of Cercyon. He was exposed and suckled by animals, while his mother was executed. After Theseus had killed Cercyon he willingly handed over his kingdom to Hippothous, since both men were the sons of Poseidon. Also known as Hippothoon.
* Hippothous, son of Cercyon. He was one of the hunters of the Calydonian Boar. He later inherited the kingdom of Arcadia when king Agapenor did not return from the Trojan War. His successor was his son, Aepytus.
* Hippothous, son of Neaera, daughter of Autolycus. He was killed by Telephus his kinsman (he was the son of Auge).
* Hippothous, son of Hippocoon. He was killed, along with father and brothers, by Heracles.
* Hippothous, one of the sons of Priam.
* Hippothous, son of Lethus, the son of Teutamides, a descendant of Pelasgus. He led the contingent of the Pelasgians during the Trojan War, along with his brother Pylaeus, and was killed by Ajax during the fight over the body of Patroclus. (en)
