- Die HGÜ Cross-Channel, englisch HVDC Cross-Channel und französisch Interconnexion France Angleterre, war vor der Inbetriebnahme von BritNed im Jahr 2011 dieeinzige Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-Übertragung (HGÜ) zwischen Britischen Inseln und dem europäischen Festland. Die 73 km lange Leitung dient dem Austausch von elektrischer Energie zwischen Großbritannien und Frankreich und ist als Seekabel durch den Ärmelkanal ausgeführt. Die heutigen Stromrichterstationen befinden sich auf französischer Seite in Bonningues-lès-Calais und in inGroßbritannien. Die Energieübertragung kann wahlweise in beide Richtungen erfolgen. Im Jahr 2005 wurde zu 97,5 % elektrische Energie von Frankreich nach England transportiert, zu 2,5 % erfolgten, primär in den Sommermonaten, elektrische Energielieferungen von England nach Frankreich. - The HVDC Cross-Channel (French: Interconnexion France Angleterre IFA 2000) is the 73 km long high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector that operates since 1986 under the English Channel between the continental European grid at Bonningues-lès-Calais and the British electricity grid at Sellindge. The cable is also known as IFA, and should not be confused with the new IFA-2, another interconnect with France that is three times as long but only half as powerful. The current 2,000 MW link is bi-directional and the countries can import or export depending upon market demands, mostly depending upon weather conditions and availability of renewable energy on the British Isles, and French surplus of nuclear generation or demand for electric heating. It was completed in 1986, and replaced the first cross-Channel link which was a 160 MW link completed in 1961 and decommissioned in 1984. A fire in September 2021 caused the link to be removed from service. National Grid announced that half of its capacity would be restored on 20 October 2021, with full capacity being restored by October 2023. (en)
- IFA 2000 (Interconnexion France Angleterre ou HVDC Cross-channel en anglais) est une installation de transport d'électricité en courant continu à très haute tension (THT-CC ou HVDC) reliant les réseaux électriques de la France et du Royaume-Uni sous la Manche. Le poste électrique français, dit des Mandarins, se trouve à Bonningues-les-Calais, celui anglais à Sellindge. Il s'agit donc d'une interconnexion électrique. La première liaison HVDC a été construite en 1961 et est une des toutes premières au monde. La largeur du détroit à franchir à l'aide de câbles rend complexe l'emploi de courant alternatif pour la transmission, une ligne en courant continu a donc été choisie. Elle avait une puissance de 160 MW et une tension de ±100 kV et une longueur de 96 km. Elle rencontrait cependant des problèmes de disponibilité dus aux accrochages avec les filets des chaluts. En 1981, une nouvelle liaison est planifiée pour remplacer la première. Elle a une puissance de 2 000 MW, d'où le nom de IFA 2000, une tension de ±270 kV. Elle est mise en service entre 1985 et 1986. En pratique, elle permet à la France d'exporter de l'énergie vers l'Angleterre. (fr)
