- Der Großkammerherr von Frankreich (frz. Grand chambellan de France) war eines der ältesten Großkronämter des monarchischen Frankreichs im Mittelalter. Während des 16. Jahrhunderts übernahm es die zusätzlichen Funktionen des aufgehobenen Amtes des Großkämmerers von Frankreich (Grand chambrier de France) und war im Ancien Régime eines der mächtigsten Ämter. Es war ebenfalls ein Kronamt, dessen Amtsinhaber bei Amtseinführung einen erblichen Adelstitel ersten Grades (Adelung durch ein Staatsamt) erhielt. Der Großkammerherr hatte zunächst die Oberaufsicht über die königlichen Gemächer (Schlafgemach und Garderobe des Monarchen). Er hatte uneingeschränkten und dauernden Zugang zum König und war Vertrauter der königlichen Räte. Mit der Übernahme der zusätzlichen Funktionen des Großkämmereramtes unterschrieb er wichtige Urkunden und Briefe des Königs und war Bewahrer des Geheimen Staatssiegels (Siegelbewahrer von Frankreich (Garde des sceaux de France)) und des Kammersiegels. Er war Richter innerhalb der von den Pair von Frankreich gestellten Gerichtsversammlungen und saß zu Füßen des Königs, wenn ein Bett der Justiz einberufen wurde. Beim Empfang der Botschafter oblag ihm der zweithöchste Rang. Er war persönlicher Kammerdiener des Königs und servierte ihm persönlich an der königlichen Tafel. Als Zeichen seines Amtes trug er einen goldenen Schlüssel. Sein Wappen wies als Insigne der Großkammerherrenwürde zwei Schlüssel in Gold auf. Eine besondere Rolle kam ihm bei der Begehung des Krönungstages zu, an dem er den Empfang der Pairs von Frankreich in den Gemächern des Königs zelebrierte. Seit der zweiten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts war das Amt zunächst von Angehörigen der Familie Orléans-Longueville bekleidet, bis 1664 durch das Haus Guise und später bis zur Französischen Revolution durch ein Mitglied der Familie La Tour d’Auvergne-Bouillon. - The Grand Chamberlain of France (French: Grand Chambellan de France) was one of the Great Officers of the Crown of France, a member of the Maison du Roi ("King's Household"), and one of the Great Offices of the Maison du Roi during the Ancien Régime. It is similar in name, but should not be confused with, the office of Grand Chamberman of France (Grand Chambrier de France), although both positions could accurately be translated by the word chamberlain. At its origin, the position of Grand Chamberlain entailed oversight of the king's chamber and his wardrobe, but in October 1545, the position absorbed the duties of the position of Grand Chambrier, which was suppressed by François I, and the Grand Chamberlain became responsible for signing charters and certain royal documents, assisting at the trial of peers, and recording the oaths of homage to the Crown, among other duties. His symbol of office was the keys to the royal apartments, which he always carried; in token of which, he was permitted to place two gold keys in saltire behind his coat of arms. He also was entitled to carry the banner of France. In rank, the position was between the Grand Maître de France and the Grand Écuyer. During a lit de justice, he sat at the king's feet. In the first half of the 16th century, the position was always held by a member of the Orléans-Longueville family, then by the Duke of Guise, and finally – until the end of the monarchy – by a member of the La Tour d'Auvergne-Bouillon family. Posteriormente, al igual que el , estos cargos fueron perdiendo importancia política y se convirtieron en cargos meramente honoríficos, pasando de ejercer un rol político de acción, a ser uno más próximo a la figura de un "Consejero Real". Su tarea inicial fue la dirección de la Cámara del Rey, así como guardar sus ropas y sus armas. Se trataba de un oficio que suponía una gran proximidad al Rey y, por tanto, estaba confiado a consejeros próximos a la figura real. El Gran Chambelán firmaba las cartas y los documentos importantes, y asistía con el Rey al juicio de los pares. A estos se añaden el abad de Saint-Remi de Reims, el guardián de la ampolla santa, así como el abad de la abadía de Saint-Denis, guardián de otras insignias reales.
