- Gevaş (ehemals armenisch Ոստան Vostan) ist eine Stadtgemeinde (Belediye) im gleichnamigen Landkreis der türkischen Provinz Van und gleichzeitig eine Gemeinde der 2012 geschaffenen Büyükşehir belediyesi Van (Großstadtgemeinde/Metropolprovinz Van). Seit der Gebietsreform 2013 ist die Gemeinde flächen- und einwohnermäßig identisch mit dem Landkreis. Gevaş liegt im Westen der Provinz am Südufer des Vansees und grenzt im Westen an die Provinz Bitlis. Der Landkreis Gevaş umfasst auch einen Teil des Vansees mit der Insel Akdamar. Die Stadt liegt zwischen dem Vansee und dem Berg Artos (3650 m), der Teil des südöstlichen Taurusgebirges ist. Die im Stadtsiegel abgebildete Jahreszahl 1923 dürfte auf das Jahr der Erhebung zur Gemeinde (Belediye/Belde) hinweisen. Der Name Vostan (eigentlich Vostikan) ist ein Titel, den sassanidischen Militärgouverneure trugen. Diese regierten die damalige armenischen Provinz des Sassanidenreiches von der Stadt Gevaş aus. So ging der Name des Titels auf die Stadt über. Die Burg Vastankalesi am Ortsrand erinnert noch an den alten Namen der Stadt.Etwas außerhalb an der Uferstraße liegt ein kleiner Friedhof mit teils umgestürzten seldschukischen Grabsteinen und der Halim Hatun Türbesi. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein polygonales Grabmal aus dem Jahr 1322, das im Untergeschoss eine Sargkammer, darüber einen Gebetsraum enthält. Der Bau ist mit einem spitzen Steindach gedeckt, an dessen Unterseite ein Fries verläuft. Die Eingänge sind mit einem Stalaktitengewölbe geschmückt. (de)
- Gevaş (Armenian: Ոստան, romanized: Vostan, lit. '[princely] court', Kurdish: Westan) is a district of Van Province of Turkey. It is located on the south shore of Lake Van. In the last elections of March 2019, Murat Sezer from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) was elected Mayor. As Kaymakam, Hamit Genç was appointed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoĝan in July 2019. Historically, Gevaş was for some time the main town of the Armenian kingdom of Vaspurakan and later between the 14th and 15th centuries the centre of a small Kurdish emirate. In their time the settlement had moved nearer to the lake. Later the town was incorporated in the Ottoman Empire. Before World War I, the district had a Muslim majority with a large Christian Armenian minority. Main sights include surviving ruins of the castle, the monumental tomb known as Halime Hatun Kümbeti, built in 1358, very likely for the daughter of a local emir, a mosque built before 1446 (restoration in that year), the tomb of Sheikh Ibrahim, father of Halime Hatun as well as the ruins of an Armenian church in Ili, probably built after 941 and an Armenian Church/monastery on Kuşadası Island west of Aghtamar Island.
