- Standing on the Shoulder of Giants ist das vierte Studioalbum der britischen Rockband Oasis. Es wurde weltweit am 28. Februar 2000 von Epic Records/Sony Music veröffentlicht. Der Titel des Albums stammt von einem Zitat von Sir Isaac Newton: „If I can see further than anyone else, it is only because I am standing on the shoulders of giants“ (Wenn ich weiter als jeder sonst sehen kann, liegt es nur daran, dass ich auf den Schultern von Giganten stehe.). Noel Gallagher las dieses Zitat auf einer britischen 2-Pfund-Münze und entschied sofort, das nächste Studioalbum derart zu benennen. Im betrunkenen Zustand schrieb er das Zitat auf die Rückseite einer Zigarettenpackung. Ausgenüchtert las er am nächsten Morgen hingegen „Standing on the Shoulder of Giants – A Bum Title“ (Auf der Schulter von Riesen stehend – ein Arschtitel) anstelle von „Standing on the Shoulders of Giants – Album Title“ (Auf den Schultern von Riesen stehend – Albumtitel). Das Album spielt eine besondere Rolle in der Bandgeschichte, die zu der Zeit vom Abschied von zwei Gründungsmitgliedern der Band, Paul „Bonehead“ Arthurs und Paul „Guigsy“ McGuigan, gesunkener Popularität und einem aus der Not geborenen musikalischen Stilwechsel geprägt ist. Cet album se définit par des sons plus proches du psychédélique moderne. Illustration avec des boucles de percussions, de samples, l'utilisation d'un sitar électrique et d'un mellotron ainsi que des sons de guitare plus orientés vers le rythmique. Cela donne un album expérimental avec des influences plus recherchées dans l'électronique ou dans le son rock psychédélique lourd. Des sons comme Go Let It Out!, Who Feels Love? avec sa couleur très hindoue encore la très progressive Gas Panic! illustrent bien ce nouveau tournant que prend le groupe avec cet album. Il est ajouté que cet album tranche de ses prédécesseurs par sa noirceur. En effet, à l'inverse de titres présents dans Be Here Now ou Definitely Maybe, des sons comme Where Did It All Go Wrong? ou Sunday Morning Call sonnent moins optimistes, plus sombres que l'on explique en partie par le départ des deux membres. - Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is the fourth studio album by English rock band Oasis, released on 28 February 2000. It was the band's first album under their new record label Big Brother Recordings. In the year preceding the album's release, Alan McGee closed Creation Records, and Oasis had lost two founding members (Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs and Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan) and hired new producer Mark "Spike" Stent to replace Owen Morris. The album marked a significant change from the Britpop scene to a modern psychedelic record complete with drum loops, samples, electric sitar, mellotron, synthesizers and backward guitars, resulting in an album more experimental with electronica and heavy psychedelic rock influences. Songs such as "Go Let It Out", the Indian-influenced "Who Feels Love?", and the progressive "Gas Panic!" departed from the band's earlier style. This album also marked the first time that lead singer Liam Gallagher contributed on songwriting ("Little James"), and this tradition was continued for their subsequent albums, instead of primarily Noel Gallagher's songwriting in the first three albums. It is the 16th fastest selling album in UK chart history, selling over 310,000 copies in its first week. Альбом був розпроданий тиражем близько 800.000 копій і в цей час є гіршим альбомом Oasis з продажу. Багатьма критиками і фанами цей альбом визнається гіршою роботою Oasis через те, що звучання альбому дуже відрізняється від звучання попередніх. Можливо це пов'язано з тим, що в процесі запису альбом покинули два незмінні учасники гурту Бовнхед і Гігзі.Назва альбому була запозичена з вислову Ісаака Ньютона.На обкладинці — фотографія Нью-Йорка. Її особливість в тому, що пейзаж Нью-Йорка як би поділений на дві частини: зліва вранішнє місто, яке перетікає в нічне ближче до правої частини.Для того, щоб створити ефект переходу неба з ночі в день, фотограф Andrew MacPherson зробив 18 фотографій за один день.І після обробки на комп'ютері вийшов такий ефект. На даху одного з хмарочосів п'ять чоловік грають у футбол. Спочатку, передбачалося, що це будуть учасники гурту, але в процесі підготовки обкладинки з гурту пішли Боунхед і Гігзі, а нових учасників ще не прийняли, тому були сфотографовані інші люди. Їх же можна побачити поблизу на обкладинці синглу «Go Let it Out».Також на обкладинці використаний новий логотип гурту, намальований новим гітаристом гурту Гемом Арчером.Цей новий логотип гурту намалював Гем для того, щоб наклеїти на свою гітару.
