- Garsington Manor ist ein Herrenhaus am Südrand des englischen Ortes , etwa sechs Kilometer südöstlich von Oxford in der Grafschaft Oxfordshire. Der Landsitz (English country house) stammt aus dem 17. Jahrhundert und wurde bis in die 1920er Jahre kaum verändert. Er steht seit dem 1. Juni 1984 als Grade-II*-Listed Building unter Denkmalschutz. Die Gartenanlagen sind in das Register of Historic Parks and Gardens eingetragen. Das Anwesen erlangte besondere Bekanntheit als Landhaus von Ottoline und Philip Morrell, die sich dort ab 1915 unter anderem mit Mitgliedern der Bloomsbury Group trafen. Von 1989 bis 2010 fanden auf Initiative der Familie des Bankiers und Musikliebhabers auf Garsington alljährlich im Sommer Opernaufführungen unter dem Namen Garsington Opera statt. Nachdem die Veranstaltungsreihe nach Wormsley Park umgezogen ist, sind das Herrenhaus und sein Garten nur noch bei seltenen Veranstaltungen des National Garden Scheme (NGS) für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Members of the Bloomsbury Group, the aristocratic Ottoline, and her wealthy husband Philip, were friends with an array of artists, writers and intellectuals, D. H. Lawrence, T. S. Eliot, E. M. Forster, Bertrand Russell, Aldous Huxley, Virginia Woolf and Siegfried Sassoon being among the visitors to their house. The manor was later owned by Leonard Ingrams and from 1989 to 2010 was the setting for an annual summer opera season, the Garsington Opera, which relocated to Wormsley Park in 2011. Le château a été construit sur des terres qui avaient appartenu au fils du poète Geoffrey Chaucer, et avaient porté un moment le nom de « Chaucers ». Lady Ottoline et son mari, Philip Morrell, l'avaient acheté en 1914, date à laquelle il s'était délabré, après avoir été utilisé comme ferme. Ils le restaurèrent complètement dans les années 1920, en créant des jardins paysagers de style italien. Le parterre comporte 24 massifs carrés avec des ifs irlandais dans les coins, le jardin italien dispose d'un grand bassin ornemental entouré par des haies d'ifs et agrémenté de statues ; au-delà, s'étend un jardin sauvage, avec allées de tilleuls, arbustes, ruisseau et étang. Garsington devint un refuge pour les amis des Morrell, y compris D. H. Lawrence, Siegfried Sassoon, Lytton Strachey, Aldous Huxley et Bertrand Russell. En 1916, ils invitèrent des objecteurs de conscience, parmi lesquels Clive Bell et d'autres « Bloomsberries », à venir travailler dans la ferme pendant la durée de la Première Guerre mondiale, pour leur éviter d'être poursuivis. - Garsington Manor is een landhuis in Tudorstijl. Het staat in het dorpje Garsington, in de buurt van Oxford en is bekend geworden als voormalig ontmoetingscentrum voor kunstenaars en intellectuelen. Het was in de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw in bezit van Lady Ottoline Morrell, die de glamoureuze gastvrouwe was van onder andere de Bloomsburygroep. Het landhuis wordt tegenwoordig elke zomer gebruikt als plaats voor een opera-programma, de Garsington Opera, en is in bezit van de familie van wijlen Leonard Ingrams. Het landhuis werd gebouwd op land dat ooit in bezit was van de zoon van de dichter Geoffrey Chaucer en droeg in het verleden de naam "Chaucers". Lady Ottoline en haar echtgenoot, Philip Morrell, kochten het in bouwvallige staat in 1914 - het was een tijdlang als boerderij gebruikt.
