Francesco Monterisi (born May 28, 1934) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He currently serves as Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops in the Roman Curia.

  • Francesco Monterisi (born May 28, 1934) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He currently serves as Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops in the Roman Curia. Monterisi was born in Barletta, and was ordained to the priesthood on March 16, 1957. On December 24, 1982, he was appointed Pro-Nuncio to Korea and Titular Archbishop of Alba Maritima. Monterisi received his episcopal consecration on January 6, 1983 from Pope John Paul II himself, with Archbishops Eduardo Martínez Somalo and Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy serving as co-consecrators. Pope John Paul later named him Nuncio to Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 11, 1993, and Secretary of Bishops on March 7, 1998. As Secretary, Monterisi is the second-highest official in that dicastery, under Giovanni Battista Cardinal Re.In virtue of his position as secretary of the College of Cardinals, he also served as secretary of the 2005 papal conclave, which selected Pope Benedict XVI.   • Il 24 dicembre 1982 è eletto arcivescovo titolare Alba Marittima e pro-nunzio apostolico in Corea. Riceve l'ordinazione episcopale il 6 gennaio 1983 da parte di papa Giovanni Paolo II . L'11 giugno 1993 è nunzio apostolico in Bosnia-Erzegovina. Nella primavera del 1998 rientra a Roma per essere nominato Segretario della Congregazione per i Vescovi, il cui Prefetto è il Cardinal Re. Per la carica è ricopre è anche Segretario del Sacro Collegio, in qualità del quale ha partecipato senza diritto di voto al Conclave del 2005.
