- W & G Foyle Ltd. (usually called simply Foyles) is a bookseller with a chain of seven stores in England. It is best known for its flagship store in Charing Cross Road, London. Foyles was once listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest bookshop in terms of shelf length, at 30 miles (48 km), and for number of titles on display. It was bought by Waterstones in 2018. Foyles was famed in the past for its anachronistic, eccentric and sometimes infuriating business practices; so much so that it became a tourist attraction. * 売れ行きが悪く絶版となった本も売れるまで棚に並べている。 1999年にオーナーのクリスティーナ・フォイルが死去し、その従兄弟のクリストファーが経営権が握ると、それまで拒み続けていた近代化に着手し始め、経営の効率化が達成された。 文学を議論するランチョンを1930年から開催していることでも知られる。 2005年にはサウス・バンクのロイヤル・フェスティヴァル・ホールにおいて開催された。 日本の東京の八重洲ブックセンターは店の姉妹店である。 (ja)
- Foyles Bookshop, sinds 1903 gevestigd aan Charing Cross Road in Londen (tegenwoordig nr 113-119) is een van de bekendste en grootste boekhandels van Engeland, gevestigd in verscheidene samengetrokken panden. Decennialang was Foyles de grootste boekenwinkel op het Britse vasteland, met vrijwel over ieder denkbaar onderwerp ten minste enkele titels op voorraad. De laatste 20 jaar treden er echter met name door internetverkoop en de opkomst van andere grote ketenboekhandels zoals en veranderingen in het boekenvak op die aan het bestaansrecht van winkels zoals Foyles zijn gaan knagen. Toch blijft voor de toerist een bezoek aan 'Foyles for Books' een belevenis. (nl)
