- Die Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (kurz F.A.R.M.S. oder Farms; zu deutsch: Stiftung für Altertumsforschung und mormonismusbezogene Themen) wurde 1979 als private Forschungsorganisation gegründet und wurde 1997 Teil der Brigham Young University in Provo im US-Bundesstaat Utah. Seit 2004 heißt die Organisation Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship (Neal A. Maxwell Institut für Religionswissenschaften). Das Logo von Farms zeigt das Programm. Es enthält Schriftzeichen aus den vier für Studien über das Buch Mormon wichtigsten Sprachen: links oben das hebräische Aleph, als erster Buchstabe Symbol für den Anfang, rechts unten das griechische Omega, als letzter Buchstabe Symbol für das Ende. Links unten findet sich eine ägyptische Hieroglyphe für den Sonnengott Re als Symbol für die Auferstehung und rechts oben eine stilisierte Maya-Glyphe als Symbol für die Mittelamerika-Studien. F.A.R.M.S fördert Studien und die Forschung über das Buch Mormon, das Buch Abraham, das Alte und Neue Testament, sowie Studien zu der Entstehung früh-christlicher Traditionen, antiken Tempeln, und anderen damit zusammenhängenden Themen. Internationale Bekanntheit in Fachkreisen hat sich F.A.R.M.S. durch intensive Mitarbeit an der Digitalisierung der Schriftrollen vom Toten Meer und deren Übersetzung erworben. Die wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten von F.A.R.M.S erscheinen in den eigenen Publikationen „Journal of Book of Mormon Studies“, in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften anderer Herausgeber und als Bücher, die teilweise selbst herausgegeben, teilweise von Wissenschaftsverlagen publiziert werden.Wie in der wissenschaftlichen Welt allgemein üblich, unterliegen die Arbeiten von F.A.R.M.S. der Überprüfung und Kritik ihrer Fachkollegen und werden nach allgemein anerkannten wissenschaftlichen Standards erarbeitet. Die einzigen deutschen Übersetzungen von Publikationen von F.A.R.M.S. in gedruckter Form sind bei LDS BOOKS erschienen. (de)
- La Fundación para la Investigación de la Antigüedad y Estudios Mormones (en inglés Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies o FARMS) fue una asociación informal de académicos dedicados a la erudición histórica del Movimiento de los Santos de los Últimos Días o mormonismo. En 1997, el grupo se convirtió en una parte formal de la Universidad Brigham Young (BYU), que pertenece y es operada por La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días (IJSUD). En 2006, el grupo se convirtió en parte formal del Instituto Neal A. Maxwell para Becas Religiosas, anteriormente conocido como Instituto para el Estudio y Preservación de Textos Religiosos Antiguos, BYU. Desde entonces, FARMS ha sido absorbido por el Centro de Estudios del Libro de Mormón Laura F. Willes del Instituto Maxwell. - The Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) was an informal collaboration of academics devoted to Latter-day Saint historical scholarship. The Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) was established in 1979 as a non-profit organization by John. W. Welch. In 1997, the group became a formal part of Brigham Young University (BYU), which is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 2006, the group became a formal part of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship, formerly known as the Institute for the Study and Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts, BYU. FARMS has since been absorbed into the Maxwell Institute's Laura F. Willes Center for Book of Mormon Studies. FARMS supported and sponsored what it considered to be "faithful scholarship", which includes academic study and research in support of Christianity and Mormonism, and in particular, the official position of the LDS Church. This research primarily concerned the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the Old Testament, the New Testament, early Christian history, ancient temples, and other related subjects. While allowing some degree of academic freedom to its scholars, FARMS was committed to the conclusion that LDS scriptures are authentic, historical texts written by prophets of God. FARMS has been criticized by scholars and critics who classify it as an apologetics organization that operated under the auspices of the LDS Church. (en)
