- Extol are a Christian metal band from Bekkestua, Norway that was formed in 1993. The band is known for playing a variety of different styles of metal which include progressive metal, death metal, black metal and thrash metal. Over the course of their career, the band has released five studio albums and two EPs. The band are noted for their precise, technical musicianship. The fourth album, The Blueprint Dives, received a Spellemannsprisen nomination for Best Metal Album of 2005. Extol has toured the United States and Europe several times with such bands as Mastodon, God Forbid and Opeth. Collectively, Extol has sold over 500,000 albums worldwide. The last line-up before the hiatus included vocalist Peter Espevoll, guitarists Tor Magne Glidje and Ole Halvard Sveen, drummer David Husvik, and bass player John Robert Mjåland. Notable original guitarists were Ole Børud (of Schaliach fame) and Christer Espevoll, who contributed significantly to the band's songwriting. After reforming in 2012, the band consists of Peter Espevoll, Husvik, and Børud. The band released its fifth album, Extol, in 2013. Nel corso della loro storia infatti hanno spostato il loro stile dal black/death metal degli esordi all'alternative passando per il thrash, mantenendo però sempre uno stile molto personale, caratterizzato da una notevole ricercatezza e da una pregevole tecnica esecutiva. Le tematiche trattate dai loro testi sono prevalentemente influenzate dalla loro fede cristiana infatti sono annoverati tra le principali band della scena Christian metal. (it)
- Extol is een Noorse christelijke progressieve extreme metalband uit Bekkestua, in 1993 opgericht door David Husvik en de broers Christer en Peter Espevoll. De naam betekent "lofprijzen" in het Engels. De muziekstijl is een mix van met name deathmetal, blackmetal, progressieve metal en thrashmetal. De bands eerste twee albums, Burial en Undeceived, worden vaak tot de progressieve deathmetal gerekend maar hebben ook sterke blackmetal-invloeden. De eerste publicatie van de band was Northern Lights / Norwegian Metal Compilation, een verzamel-cd van het label van Steve Rowe. Het eerste album was Burial, dat in 1998 uitkwam.
