- Vardøger était un groupe de metal extrême chrétien de Hamar, en Norvège. Formé en 1994 sous le nom de Hidden Paradise les membres du groupe à l'époque étaient tous impliqués dans d'autres projets musicaux et traitaient donc Hidden Paradise comme un projet parallèle. Plusieurs chansons ont été écrites entre 1995 et 1997, presque assez pour un album entier, et le groupe a changé son nom pour Vardøger, mais le groupe s'est dissous avant qu'un album ne puisse sortir. En 2000, le groupe a contribué au morceau de black metal symphonique "Footprints of Thunder" à l'album de compilation In the Shadow of Death: A Scandinavian Extreme Music Compilation. Vardøger c'est réformé et a finalement lancé un EP, Whitefrozen, en 2003 via Endtime Productions. L'album a été bien reçu par les critiques et est considéré comme un classique. Stefan Lang de Powermetal.de a déclaré que le groupe avait un potentiel réel de croître au-delà de la moyenne, Matt Morrow de HM Magazine a donné à l'album une note de 10/10, et l'écrivain chrétien Johannes Jonsson a qualifié l'album de 3/5. Jakob Plantinga de Rocklife.nl a estimé que, selon lui, alors que l'album était bon, il n'était pas particulièrement innovant. Un changement majeur de line-up a eu lieu en 2010, et le groupe a commencé à enregistrer un album complet, Ghost Notes, qui est sorti en 2015 via Starbreather Productions. Though the band is known for playing black metal, on this release it expanded its sound to progressive metal, extreme metal, and melodic death metal. Ghost Notes was compared to the output of Kekal, Extol, Gojira, and Opeth. In 2018, Vardøger announced that it would once again disband. (en)
