- El foxhound anglès és un una raça de gos. Descendeix del bloodhound i l'extint talbot. La seva funció principal és caçar al costat d'homes muntats a cavall. Pot treballar durant diverses hores sense descans i en diversos tipus de terreny. Mai es té com a animal de companyia, sinó que es cria en gossades privades. És un gos fort, viu, atrevit i sorollós. Tenen la capa curta i dura. Color tricolor negre, blanc i torrat o bicolor amb un fons blanc. Cap no pesat, i amb celles pronunciades. Orelles baixes i caigudes, estil gos. Esquena musculosa, a nivell. Potes rectes. Cua ben assentada de port alegre, estil fuet. La grandària mitjana dels foxhound varia lleugerament depenent del gènere de l'animal. Els mascles mesuren entre 55 i 62,5 cm fins a la creu, i les femelles de 50,5 a 60 cm fins a la creu. Generalment pesen entre 29,5 i 38 kg.Té una gran semblança física amb el beagle encara que és una mica més gran. (ca)

- Der English Foxhound ist eine von der FCI anerkannte britische Hunderasse (FCI-Gruppe 6, Sektion 1.1, Standard Nr. 159). Der English Foxhound ist ein Laufhund, der sich besonders zur Fuchsjagd eignet und in der Meute jagt. Er ist der beliebteste Meutenhund für Schleppjagden in Deutschland und wird auch in England häufig verwendet. Fuchsjagden werden seit dem Mittelalter durchgeführt. Die Existenz der Meuten ist über Jahrhunderte dokumentiert. Die Meuten waren in der Vergangenheit jedoch nicht so einheitlich wie der jetzige Rassestandard. Im 19. Jahrhundert begann man die Meuten gezielt zu züchten. So lassen sich Ahnentafeln von English Foxhound-Meuten etwa 200 Jahre weit zurückverfolgen, einmalig in der Hundezucht. Auch heute werden diese Hunde noch in Zwingern gehalten. Mit Zwingern sind hier Großanlagen gemeint, in denen die ganze Meute untergebracht ist. Der Unterhalt von Zwingern ist sehr aufwändig. Die Meute-Zwingerhaltung bewirkt, dass die Tiere auf ihre Artgenossen geprägt und hoch sozialisiert sind. English Foxhounds werden selten als gehalten, dazu müssten sie schon früh aus der Meute herausgenommen werden, so dass sie auf den Menschen geprägt werden. (de)
