- Το Όγδοο Πρόγραμμα του συντάγματος της Ινδίας ονομάζει τις επίσημες γλώσσες της Δημοκρατίας της Ινδίας. Την περίοδο ψήφισης του συντάγματος, η ένταξη στη λίστα σήμαινε ότι η γλώσσα είχε δικαίωμα εκπροσώπησης στην Επιτροπή Επίσημων Γλωσσών και ότι κάθε γλώσσα που συμπεριλαμβανόταν θα μπορούσε να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως βάση προς αξιοποίηση και εμπλουτισμό των Χίντι, της επίσημης γλώσσας της Ένωσης. Από τότε, η σημασία του καταλόγου έχει αυξηθεί. Η Κυβέρνηση της Ινδίας υποχρεούται να λαμβάνει μέτρα για την ανάπτυξη αυτών των γλωσσών, καθώς "πλουτίζονται γρήγορα και γίνονται αποτελεσματικό μέσο επικοινωνίας για τη σύγχρονη γνώση". Επιπλέον, ο κάθε υποψήφιος που συμμετέχει σε εξετάσεις για την εισαγωγή του σε μια δημόσια υπηρεσία μπορεί να επιλέξει οποιαδήποτε από τις 22 παρακάτω γλώσσες για να εξεταστεί. Σύμφωνα με τα Άρθρα 344(1) και 351 του Ινδικού Συντάγματος, το όγδοο πρόγραμμα περιλαμβάνει επίσημη αναγνώριση για τις ακόλουθες 22 γλώσσες: 1.

* Ούρντου Το αρχικό σύνταγμα περιλάμβανε 14 από τις παραπάνω γλώσσες. Το 1967, σύμφωνα με τον 21ο νόμο τροποποίησης του συντάγματος, προστέθηκε η γλώσσα Σίντι. Το 1992, προστέθηκαν 3 νέες γλώσσες (Κονκάνι, Μανιπούρι και Νεπαλικά), σύμφωνα με τον 71ο νόμο τροποποίησης του συντάγματος. Το 2003, προστέθηκαν 4 νέες γλώσσες (Μπόντο, Ντόγκρι, Μαϊθίλι και Σαντάλι), σύμφωνα με τον 92ο νόμο τροποποίησης του συντάγματος. (el)
- The Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India lists the official languages of the Republic of India. At the time when the Constitution was enacted, inclusion in this list meant that the language was entitled to representation on the Official Languages Commission, and that the language would be one of the bases that would be drawn upon to enrich Hindi and English, the official languages of the Union. The list has since, however, acquired further significance. The Government of India is now under an obligation to take measures for the development of these languages, such that "they grow rapidly in richness and become effective means of communicating modern knowledge." In addition, candidates sitting for an examination conducted for public service are entitled to use any of these languages as a medium to answer the paper. (en)
- Jadwal Kedelapan Konstitusi India mendaftarkan bahasa-bahasa resmi Republik India. Pada waktu Konstitusi diterapkan, pencantuman dalam daftar tersebut menandakan bahwa bahasa tersebut terwakili pada , dan bahwa bahasa tersebut akan menjadi salah satu basis yang akan memperkaya Hindi, bahasa resmi negara tersebut. Namun, daftar tersebut telah mengakuisisi signifikansi lebih lanjut. Pemerintah India saat ini di bawah sebuah obligasi mengambil ukuran untuk pengembangan bahasa-bahasa resmi, seperti bahwa "bahasa-bahasa tersebut bertumbuh cepat dalam kekayaan dan menjadi alat efektif dari pengetahuan komunikasi modern." * Urdu Inggris menjadi bahasa resmi dari bahasa-bahasa tersebut, awalnya ada 14 bahasa yang dimasukkan dalam Konstitusi tersebut. Bahasa Sindhi ditambahkan pada 1967. Setelah itu, tiga bahasa lainnya yakni Konkani, Manipuri dan Nepali dimasukkan pada 1992. Kemudian, bahasa Bodo, Dogri, Maithili dan Santhali ditambahkan pada 2003. (in)
