- A double-decker tram or double-deck tram is a tram that has two levels or decks. Some double-decker trams have open tops. Double-deck trams were once popular in some European cities, like Berlin and London, throughout the British Empire countries in the early half of the 20th century including Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington in New Zealand; Hobart, Tasmania in Australia and in parts of Asia. They are still in service or even newly introduced in Hong Kong, Alexandria, Dubai, Oranjestad, Blackpool, Birkenhead, Franschhoek, Auckland and Douglas, mostly as heritage or tourist trams. (en)

De eerste dubbeldekstrams, alle nog paardentrams, hadden onder een afgesloten compartiment en boven een open dek. De trap naar boven bevond zich vaak naast de trambestuurder. Soms was er nog een extra trap aan de achterzijde. Vanaf de jaren 1920 kwamen de elektrische dubbeldekstrams met gesloten bovenverdiepingen op. - Tramwaj piętrowy – tramwaj posiadający dwa poziomy (piętra) do przewozu pasażerów. Największa liczba tramwajów piętrowych wykorzystywana jest w Hongkongu, gdzie stanowią one całość floty składającej się ze 163 pojazdów. Pierwsze tramwaje piętrowe pojawiły się tam w 1912 roku. Poza Hongkongiem tramwaje piętrowe używane są w Blackpool (Anglia) oraz w Aleksandrii (Egipt). W przeszłości tramwaje piętrowe można było spotkać w wielu miastach Europy i byłego imperium brytyjskiego, m.in. w Paryżu, Londynie, Sheffield, , , Bombaju, czy . Większość z nich zniknęła z ulic w okresie od lat 30. do lat 60. XX wieku, często w wyniku likwidacji systemów tramwajowych w tych miastach i zastępowania ich komunikacją autobusową bądź trolejbusową. Podstawową zaletą tramwajów piętrowych jest powiększona względem standardowych tramwajów ładowność nieskutkująca zwiększoną długością pojazdu. Do głównych wad należą wydłużony czas wsiadania i wysiadania pasażerów oraz zwiększone ryzyko wywrócenia pojazdu na skutek wykolejenia. (pl)
