- De quinque corporibus regularibus (sometimes called Libellus de quinque corporibus regularibus) is a book on the geometry of polyhedra written in the 1480s or early 1490s by Italian painter and mathematician Piero della Francesca. It is a manuscript, in the Latin language; its title means [the little book] on the five regular solids. It is one of three books known to have been written by della Francesca. Along with the Platonic solids, De quinque corporibus regularibus includes descriptions of five of the thirteen Archimedean solids, and of several other irregular polyhedra coming from architectural applications. It was the first of what would become many books connecting mathematics to art through the construction and perspective drawing of polyhedra, including Luca Pacioli's 1509 Divina proportione (which incorporated without credit an Italian translation of della Francesca's work). Lost for many years, De quinque corporibus regularibus was rediscovered in the 19th century in the Vatican Library and the Vatican copy has since been republished in facsimile. (en)

La datation en est incertaine, mais se situe entre les années 1480 et 1492. Le traité est une réécriture et augmentation de la partie géométrique de son Trattato d'abaco. Plus de la moitié des problèmes sont nouveaux et surtout il y a des découvertes mathématiques importantes.
* Il existe un seul codex du Libellus de quinque corporibus regularibus, qui se trouve à la Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, MS. Urb.lat.632. Une édition critique et reproduction en facsimilé a été publiée en 1995.
* Une copie de chaque page du codex est visible sur Commons : Libellus De Quinque Corporibus Regularibus Peu de temps après la mort de Piero en 1492, le Libellus et le Trattato d'abaco étaient plagiés par Luca Pacioli et publiés dans ses livres De divina proportione (1509) et Summa de arithmetica, geometria, de proportioni et de proportionalita (Venise, 1494), sans citer Piero (voire Plagiat par Luca Pacioli pour plus de détails). C'est ainsi que ses œuvres mathématiques se sont pas passées à la postérité et Piero lui-même est tombé dans un oubli quasi-total pendant 450 ans. (fr)
- Il De quinque corporibus regularibus è un trattato sulla geometria euclidea scritto da Piero della Francesca. La datazione dell'opera è incerta e in ogni caso legata alla tarda maturità dell'autore, tra gli anni sessanta e ottanta del Quattrocento. L'opera tratta dei cinque solidi geometrici regolari iscrivibili in una sfera e non ulteriormente semplificabili (solidi platonici): il tetraedro, il cubo, l'ottaedro, il dodecaedro e l'icosaedro. L'opera si ispira alla trattazione di Platone, ma l'autore è interessato al carattere puramente matematico-geometrico delle figure, tralasciando le combinazioni filosofiche con gli elementi e l'interpretazione del loro carattere segnico che contraddistingueva l'opera del filosofo greco. Piero della Francesca era essenzialmente interessato quindi alle finalità pratiche degli studi geometrici, soprattutto rapportati al disegno ed alle arti figurative. (it)
