- David Saharuni fou governador militar, curopalata i ixkhan de l'Armènia romana d'Orient del 635 al 638. Era membre de la família de prínceps Saharuni. Mentre el marzban de la Persarmènia Varaz-Tirots Bagratuní estava a la cort imperial a l'Osroene, va entrar en un complot contra l'emperador organitzat pels mateixos fills d'aquest. David fou part d'aquest complot. L'intent de deposar Heracli va fracassar i els conspiradors foren castigats: a un fill i un nebot de Varaz-Tirots, que estaven més compromesos, se'ls va tallar el nas; Varaz-Tirots fou deportat a una illa probablement de la costa d'Àfrica; David Saharuni fou detingut pel governador Mjej II Gnuní però es va poder escapar, va convèncer a les tropes (molts dels quals eren armenis) i va matar a Mjej i es va proclamar magister militum. Llavors va obtenir l'adhesió dels feudals i funcionaris i Heracli es va veure obligat a acceptar els fets i David fou nomenat Curopalata càrrec que va exercir amb encert durant tres anys. - David Saharuni (Armenian: Դաւիթ Սահարունի, Dawit' Saharuni) was sparapet, curopalates, ishkhan, and presiding prince of Byzantine-controlled Armenia from 635 to 638. David was a nakharar from the princely noble House of Saharuni. When the marzpan of Persarmania Varaztirots II Bagratuni was in the Byzantine imperial court in Osroene, he entered in a plot against emperor Heraclius organized by his illegitimate son John Athalarichos. David was also part of this plot. The attempt ultimately failed and Varaztirots was deported to an island near the coast of North Africa. David Saharuni was attacked by general and ruler of Byzantine Armenia, Mzhezh Gnuni but managed to evade capture and killed Mzhezh Gnuni, with the help of Gnuni's own troops, many of whom were Armenians sympathetic to Saharuni. David quickly obtained support from the local feudal lords, as a result Heraclius was forced to nominate David as curopalates. The historian adds that the Armenians nobles also gave him the title of Ishkhan of Armenia. Three years later the nobility overthrew Saharuni and Theodoros Rshtuni took his place as ruler of Armenia.
