Voor bisdom San Cristóbal de La Laguna waren op dit moment op de eilanden Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera en El Hierro. Bekroond vele koninklijke en kerkelijke titels, was hij een van de belangrijkste figuren van de Katholieke Kerk in Spanje.
