- Affreightment (from freight) is a legal term relating to shipping. A contract of affreightment is a contract between a ship-owner and a charterer, in which the ship-owner agrees to carry goods for the charterer in the ship, or to give the charterer the use of the whole or part of the ship's cargo-carrying space for the carriage of goods on a specified voyage or voyages or for a specified time. The charterer agrees to pay a specified price, called freight, for the carriage of the goods or the use of the ship. A ship may be let, like a house, to a person who takes possession and control of it for a specified term. The person who hires a ship in this way occupies during the specified time the position of ship-owner. The contract under which a ship is so let may be called a charterparty—but it is not, properly speaking, a contract of affreightment, and is mentioned here only to clarify the distinction between a charter-party of this kind, which is sometimes called a demise of the ship, and a charter-party that is a contract of affreightment. - Il nolo marittimo è un contratto di noleggio di nave in base al quale un armatore, in cambio di un corrispettivo pattuito, si obbliga a compiere con una nave determinata uno o più viaggi prestabiliti (noleggio a viaggio), ovvero, entro il periodo di tempo convenuto (noleggio a tempo), i viaggi ordinati dal noleggiatore alle condizioni stabilite dal contratto o dagli usi. Il nolo è calcolato, in primo luogo, sulla base della ripartizione dei costi tra noleggiante (armatore) e noleggiatore a seconda del tipo di contratto di utilizzazione.
* Locazione a scafo nudo (bareboat charter): il nolo comprende soltanto i costi di disponibilità della nave (capital expense o capex) mentre i costi di gestione della nave (operative expense o opex) e i costi di viaggio (voyage expense o voyex) sono direttamente a carico del noleggiatore (in questo caso locatario o conduttore).
* Noleggio a tempo (time charter): il nolo (hire) comprende i costi di disponibilità della nave e i costi di gestione della nave mentre i costi di viaggio sono direttamente a carico del noleggiatore.
* Noleggio a viaggio (voyage charter): il nolo (freight) comprende i costi di disponibilità della nave, i costi di gestione della nave e i costi di viaggio. (it)

За договором фрахтівник (одна зі сторін договору фрахтування, яка бере на себе зобов'язання здійснити перевезення вантажів морським чи авіаційним транспортом за відповідну, зазначену угодою винагороду у порт призначення на умовах надання для цього всього судна, його частини або окремих приміщень) зобов'язується надати фрахтувальникові (друга сторона договору фрахтування, яка пропонує для перевезення морським чи авіаційним транспортом вантаж або пасажирів і бере на себе зобов'язання про сплату відповідних витрат) за плату всю або частину місткості в одному чи кількох транспортних засобах на один або кілька рейсів для перевезення вантажу, пасажирів, багажу, пошти або з іншою метою, якщо це не суперечить закону та іншим нормативно-правовим актам. Відповідно до статті 203 Кодексу торговельного мореплавства України за договором фрахтування судна на певний час судновласник зобов'язується за обумовлену плату (фрахт) надати судно фрахтувальнику для перевезення пасажирів, вантажів та для інших цілей торговельного мореплавства на певний час. Відповідно до статті 61 Повітряного кодексу України фрахтове повітряне перевезення виконується на підставі договору фрахтування (фрахтування повітряного судна), за яким одна сторона (фрахтівник) зобов'язується надати іншій стороні (фрахтувальнику) за плату всю місткість одного чи кількох повітряних суден на один або кілька рейсів для повітряного перевезення пасажирів, багажу, вантажу і пошти або з іншою метою, якщо це не суперечить чинному законодавству України.
