- Die Central Hockey League war eine nordamerikanische Eishockey Minor League, die 1963 gegründet und 1984 aufgelöst wurde. Die Liga entstand 1963 als Central Professional Hockey League, fünf Jahre später folgte die Umbenennung auf den Namen Central Hockey League. Die sich im Besitz der National Hockey League befindliche Liga entstand als Ersatz für die zuvor aufgelöste Eastern Professional Hockey League und wurde dabei auch komplett von der NHL organisiert und verwaltet. Der erste Präsident der Central Hockey League war Jack Adams, der die Liga für die nächsten fünf Jahre führte. Die Meisterschaftstrophäe wurde ihm zu Ehren Adams Cup genannt. Die Liga begann in der Saison 1963/64 mit fünf Teams. Dies waren die Omaha Knights, St. Paul Rangers, Minneapolis Bruins, St. Louis Braves und die Indianapolis Capitols. Die Omaha Knights gewannen als erstes Team den Meisterschaftspokal, den Adams Cup. Im Laufe ihrer Geschichte schwankte die Teilnehmeranzahl der Liga zwischen vier und neun Franchises. Keines der Franchises war dabei die gesamte Zeit aktiv, viele überdauerten nur wenige Jahre und wurden aufgelöst. Nach der Saison 1983/84, die mit fünf Mannschaften ausgetragen wurde, folgte bei drei Franchises die Auflösung, nur die Indianapolis Checkers und die Salt Lake Golden Eagles führten den Spielbetrieb danach in der International Hockey League fort. Named the Central Hockey League for the 1968–69 season and forward, it was owned and operated by the National Hockey League and served as a successor to the Eastern Professional Hockey League, which had folded after the 1962–63 season. Four of the CHL's initial franchises were, in fact, relocations of the previous year's EPHL teams, while the fifth came from the International Hockey League. Its founding president was Jack Adams, who served in the role until his death in 1968. The CHL's championship trophy was called the Adams Cup in his honor. (en)

Inizialmente nota con il nome di Central Professional Hockey League, la lega fu gestita e controllata dalla National Hockey League e succedette cronologicamente alla Eastern Professional Hockey League, la quale si sciolse al termine della stagione 1962-63. Quattro delle franchigie originarie della CHL erano per l'appunto vecchie squadre della EPHL trasferitesi in altre città, mentre la quinta proveniva dall'International Hockey League. Il suo fondatore fu Jack Adams, presidente della lega fino alla sua morte avvenuta nel 1968. Il trofeo della CHL si chiamò Adams Cup proprio in suo onore. (it)

Ligan startades dock med namnet Central Professional Hockey League (CPHL), men 1968 ville man förenkla liganamnet och tog bort Professional. Samma år tog den nordamerikanska proffsligan National Hockey League (NHL) över ägarskapet och drev den tills ligan lades ner 1984. NHL använde ligan som en utvecklingsliga likt vad American Hockey League (AHL) och ECHL är idag för NHL. Samtliga medlemsorganisationer hade minst ett farmarlag i ligan, där de skickade spelare mellan sig för att ge de spelare som inte lyckats få en plats i NHL-truppen speltid. (sv)
