- Die Römisch-katholische Kirche in Äthiopien ist Teil der weltweiten römisch-katholischen Kirche. Es gibt rund 800.000 Katholiken in Äthiopien – knapp unter 1 Prozent der Gesamtbevölkerung. Sie stellen damit die drittgrößte christliche Konfession nach den Angehörigen der Äthiopisch-orthodoxe Tewahedo-Kirche und den Protestanten in Äthiopien. Es gibt zwei Teilkirchen eigenen Rechts mit eigener Hierarchie, die katholische Kirche (Römischer Ritus) mit acht apostolischen Vikariaten und einer apostolischen Präfektur, und die mit Rom unierte Äthiopisch-katholische Kirche (Äthiopischer Ritus) mit einer Erzeparchie und drei Eparchien. Der Äthiopische Ritus ist eine Sonderform des Alexandrinischen Ritus. Der Heilige Stuhl und Äthiopien unterhalten volle diplomatische Beziehungen. - The Catholic Church in Ethiopia is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the pope in Rome. The Eastern Rite Ethiopian Catholic Church, the primary Roman Catholic denomination in the country, bases its liturgy and teaching on that of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, modified to be in accordance with the Catholic dogma. While separated by their understanding of the primacy of the Bishop of Rome and their Christology, the Ethiopian Catholic and Orthodox Churches have basically the same sacraments and liturgy. As of 2010, there were 610,714 members of the Ethiopian Catholic Church. There are also a small number of Latin-Rite Catholics in the country, primarily Italian Ethiopians. (en)

O catolicismo é uma religião pequena no país, porém, de grande importância, já que, apesar de os católicos formarem somente 0,7% da população, a Igreja administra incríveis 90% das obras sociais. Isso significa ser uma ajuda insubstituível às populações pobres atingidas por problemas cíclicos e muito graves. A obra social da Igreja diz respeito, em primeiro lugar, ao campo sanitário e ao da instrução, mas também ao da construção de obras (poços, aquedutos) para a exploração da água. (pt)
