Admiral Frederick Beauchamp Paget Seymour, 1st Baron Alcester, GCB (12 April 1821 – 30 March 1895) was a British admiral. He was the son of Colonel Sir Horace Beauchamp Seymour and a cousin of the 5th Marquess of Hertford. He was a great-grandson of the 1st Marquess of Hertford.

In 1872, he became a Lord of the Admiralty for two years, and then commander the Channel fleet. He became a Vice Admiral on 31 December 1876, and was created a KCB in June 1877, and was upgraded to a GCB on 24 May 1881. From 1880 to 1883 he was Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet in the Mediterranean. He became an Admiral in May 1882. He was created Baron Alcester, of Alcester in the County of Warwick, in 1882 for his command of the bombardment of Alexandria and in the subsequent operations on the coast of Egypt. He was also honoured with a parliamentary grant of £25,000, the Freedom of the City of London and a Sword of Honour. He died unmarried and his peerage became extinct. (en)

Kształcił się w Eton College. W 1834 r. wstąpił do Royal Navy. Służył w marynarce na Morzu Śródziemnym i Pacyfiku. W 1847 r. został awansowany do rangi komandora, a w 1854 r. kapitana. Podczas wojny krymskiej dowodził w latach 1855-1856 HMS Meteor. Później służył w Birmie. Podczas wojny z Maorysami w Nowej Zelandii w latach 1860-1861 dowodził morską brygadą. Za swoją postawę został odznaczony Krzyżem Kawalerskim Orderu Łaźni. W 1870 r. został mianowany kontradmirałem. W 1872 r. na okres dwóch lat został Lordem Admiralicji, a przez następne trzy lata dowodził flotą na kanale La Manche (Channel Fleet). 31 grudnia 1876 r. uzyskał stopień wiceadmirała. W czerwcu 1877 r. został odznaczony Krzyżem Komandorskim Orderu Łaźni. W 1882 r. uzyskał Krzyż Wielki tego orderu. W latach 1880-1883 dowodził flotą na Morzu Śródziemnym. W maju 1882 r. został awansowany do stopnia admirała. W tym samym roku, w nagrodę za sprawnie przeprowadzony atak i ostrzał Aleksandrii oraz inne działania morskie podczas wojny z Egiptem, został nagrodzony tytułem barona Alcester, uprawniającym go do zasiadania w Izbie Lordów. Otrzymał również uposażenie od Parlamentu w wysokości 25 000 funtów. W 1885 r. ukończył Uniwersytet w Oxfordzie z tytułem doktora prawa cywilnego. Zmarł w 1895 r. Frederick, aus einem Seitenzweig der Hertfords, Sohn des Parlamentsmitglieds Sir Horace Beauchamp Seymour und Enkel des Admirals Lord Hugh Seymour, besuchte das Eton College, trat dann 1834 in die Marine ein und wurde 1842 Leutnant zur See. Er zeichnete sich 1852-1853 im Krieg gegen Birma aus, wurde dafür 1854 zum Kapitän befördert, diente während des Krimkriegs in der Ostseeflotte und befehligte eine schwimmende Batterie im Schwarzen Meer. 1862 erhielt er ein Kommando in den Gewässern Neuseelands. 1868-1870 war Seymour erster Sekretär des Marineministers Childers, wurde 1870 Konteradmiral, trat 1872 als Lord in die Admiralität ein. Er erhielt 1874 darauf das Kommando des Kanalgeschwaders und einige Jahre später als Vizeadmiral das des Mittelmeer-Geschwaders. Während der Flottendemonstration vor Dulcigno 1880 führte er als ältester Admiral den Oberbefehl über die Schiffe aller Mächte. Im Jahre 1882 wurde er mit dem Kommando über die nach Alexandria geschickten englischen Schiffe beauftragt. Dort war es im Zuge der Urabi-Bewegung am 11. Juni zu blutigen Exzessen gegen die Ausländer gekommen. Nach Ablehnung eines Ultimatums bombardierte er am 11. Juli deshalb die Forts von Alexandria und machte sie wehrlos. Er besetzte am 14. Juli die Stadt und leitete im August die Überführung der britischen Truppen nach Ismailia am Suezkanal, den diese besetzten. Die von ihm angelandeten Truppen, unter General Wolseley, schlugen die ägyptische Armee Arabi Paschas in der Schlacht von Tel-el-Kebir. Seymour nahm selbst im Stab Wolseleys an der Schlacht teil. Ägypten blieb daraufhin von den Briten besetzt (Britische Herrschaft in Ägypten). Als Baron Alcester (von Alcester in der Grafschaft Warwick) erhielt Seymour hierauf den Peerstitel und eine Nationaldotation von 25.000 Pfund, auch wurde er Admiral und Lord der Admiralität." (de)
