- Der BMP-23 (bulgarisch: БМП-23) ist ein schwimmfähiger Schützenpanzer aus bulgarischer Entwicklung. Die Abkürzung BMP-23 steht im Bulgarischen für бойна машина на пехотата-23, was „Gefechtsfahrzeug der Infanterie 23“ bedeutet und das Kaliber der Hauptwaffe numerisch wiedergibt. (de)
- The BMP-23 (бойна машина на пехотата) is a Bulgarian infantry fighting vehicle which was first introduced in the early 1960s. However, it was based on a design from the Bulgarian design bureau from the 1950s, being presented in 1960. Despite its name, the BMP-23 is very different from the BMP-1 and more similar in function to the BMP-2. The hull is based on that of the Soviet 2S1 self-propelled howitzer (also produced by Bulgaria) with thicker armour and a more powerful diesel engine, which is itself based on a stretched MT-LB chassis. Since the 2S1 is a larger vehicle, the troop transport compartment is not as cramped as that of the BMP-1. The armour is cast steel, capable of withstanding heavy machine gun fire. The turret is armed with a 23-mm autocannon 2A14 from the air-defence gun ZU-23-2 with 600 rounds, and initially an ATGM launcher for the 9M14 Malyutka, today with 9K111 Fagot ATGM. The BMP-23 was first seen on a parade in 1984. It served with the Bulgarian army in Iraq along with the M1117 Armoured Security Vehicle. (en)

Sin embargo, se basó en un diseño de la oficina de diseño búlgara de los años 50, siendo presentado en 1960. A pesar de su nombre, el BMP-23 es muy diferente del BMP-1 y más parecido en su funciones al BMP-2. El casco está basado en el del obús autopropulsado soviético 2S1 (también producido por Bulgaria) con un blindaje más grueso y un motor diesel más potente, que a su vez se basa en un chasis MT-LB alargado. Como el 2S1 es un vehículo más grande, el compartimento de transporte de tropas no es tan estrecho como el del BMP-1. El blindaje es de acero fundido, capaz de resistir el fuego de ametralladoras pesadas. La torreta está armada con un cañón automático 2A14 de 23 mm del cañón antiaéreo ZU-23-2 con 600 cartuchos, e inicialmente con un lanzador de ATGM (misiles antitanque) para el , hoy con el ATGM 9K111 Fagot. El BMP-23 se vio por primera vez en un desfile en 1984. Sirvió con el ejército búlgaro en Irak junto con el vehículo blindado de seguridad M1117. (es)

Meskipun namanya mirip, BMP-23 amatlah berbeda dari BMP-1 dan memiliki lebih banyak kemiripan dengan BMP-2. Bodi utamanya dirancang menggunakan buatan Uni Soviet, memiliki zirah yang lebih tebal dan mesin disel yang lebih bertenaga. Karena "Gvozdika" merupakan kendaraan yang lebih besar, kompartemen pengangkut tentaranya tidaklah se-sesak BMP-1. Zirahnya dicetak berbahan baja, memiliki kemampuan menangkis tembakan senapan mesin. - Il BMP-23 è un veicolo da combattimento della fanteria cingolato, prodotto in Bulgaria ed entrato in servizio negli anni 1980. A dispetto del nome, il mezzo non ha alcuna connessione con i contemporanei veicoli per la fanteria sovietici della serie BMP, ma è un prodotto indigeno basato sullo scafo del semovente d'artiglieria 2S1 Gvozdika riadattato per il trasporto dei soldati e riequipaggiato con una torretta dotata di armamento più leggero. Prodotto in circa 115 esemplari, il mezzo è in dotazione unicamente ai reparti meccanizzati dell'Esercito bulgaro anche nella versione BMP-30 dotata di armamento potenziato. (it)
