- Avelumab (Markenname Bavencio) ist ein vollhumaner monoklonaler Antikörper aus der Klasse der Immun-Checkpoint-Inhibitoren. Er wird zum Einsatz in der Krebsimmuntherapie entwickelt. Avelumab bindet spezifisch an den programmierten Zelltod-Liganden 1 (PD-L1). Avelumab erhielt im Dezember 2015 die Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) für die Behandlung des Merkelzellkarzinoms sowie im Dezember 2016 zur Behandlung von Magenkrebs von der Europäischen Kommission. Die Plasmahalbwertszeit liegt bei 6,1 Tagen. Avelumab wurde von der Merck KGaA entwickelt. Das Unternehmen erzielte 2018 mit Bavencio einen Umsatz von 69 Mio. €. - Avelumab, sold under the brand name Bavencio, is a fully human monoclonal antibody medication for the treatment of Merkel cell carcinoma, urothelial carcinoma, and renal cell carcinoma. Common side effects include fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, diarrhea, nausea, infusion-related reactions, rash, decreased appetite and swelling of the limbs (peripheral edema). Avelumab targets the protein programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1). It has received orphan drug designation by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the treatment of gastric cancer in January 2017. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in March 2017 for Merkel-cell carcinoma. an aggressive type of skin cancer. The EMA approved it in September 2017 for the same indication. This is the first FDA-approved treatment for metastatic MCC, a rare, aggressive form of skin cancer. Avelumab was developed by Merck KGaA and Pfizer. (en)

- Avelumab, awelumab (nazwa handlowa Bavencio) – ludzkie przeciwciało monoklonalne wyprodukowane przez firmy farmaceutyczne Merck KGaA, Pfizer i Eli Lilly i stosowane jako lek onkologiczny w immunoterapii chorób nowotworowych. Pierwotnie awelumab miał być zastosowany do leczenia niedrobnokomórkowego raka płuc (NSCLC); prowadzone są dalsze badania nad możliwością zastosowania tego leku w tym wskazaniu. Działanie awelumabu jest skierowane na białko nazywane ligandem białka zaprogramowanej śmierci (PD-L1). W styczniu 2017 Europejska Agencja Leków zatwierdziła awelumab jako lek sierocy do leczenia raka żołądka.
