It has been host to the World Touring Car Championship, TC2000, Fórmula Truck and Stock Car Brasil racing. Until 2013 the circuit has also been host of the South American Formula 3 Series, namely the Formula 3 Sudamericana. The circuit also formerly hosted the Brazilian Formula Three Championship. The circuit also hosted the "Festival Brasileiro de Arrancada", from 1992 to 2016, which was the biggest drag racing event in Latin America. (en)

Su construcción comenzó en el año 1965 y concluyó en 1967. El trazado principal mide 3.695 metros de longitud, y el perimetral 2550 metros. La extensa recta principal se suele usar para medir la velocidad máxima de los automóviles de carreras de ese país. Curitiba recibe habitualmente a las principales categorías brasileñas de automovilismo de velocidad, como el Stock Car Brasil y la Fórmula Truck, así como a la Fórmula 3 Sudamericana. En 2005 y 2006, la categoría argentina Turismo Competición 2000 compartió escenario con el Stock Car Brasil, como parte de un intercambio de fechas entre ambos certámenes. En 2002, la categoría europea de monoplazas World Series by Nissan experimentó incursionar fuera del viejo continente al visitar Curitiba e Interlagos. Por su parte, el Campeonato Mundial de Turismos ha disputado una carrera en Curitiba desde 2006, siempre como fecha inaugural (salvo en 2006) y precedida por Puebla, el otro circuito americano (salvo en 2007). La edición de 2009 se disputó en simultáneo con , una carrera fue válida para el Desafío Intercontinental de Rally y el campeonatos sudamericano, el brasileño y el paranaense de rally. (es)

Em 1987, foi batizado com o nome do piloto curitibano Raul de Mesquita Boesel, tornando-se Circuito Raul Boesel Recebia regularmente provas de diversas categorias de velocidade nacionais, como Stock Car, Fórmula Truck, Copa Turismo GNV, Pick Up Racing, Campeonato Paranaense de Arrancada, Troféu Maserati, Campeonato Paranaense de Moto velocidade, Copa Turismo I, Copa Turismo A, Copa Turismo N e outros eventos promocionais. Em 2002, foi realizada uma das etapas do campeonato mundial "World Series" e, com a realização de uma etapa do Campeonato Mundial de Carros de Turismo, em 2006, o autódromo tornou-se conhecido mundialmente. Por algum tempo, foi o circuito brasileiro mais moderno e com melhor estrutura depois de Interlagos e atendeu aos padrões da Federação Internacional de Automobilismo (FIA), sendo homologado pela Confederação Brasileira de Automobilismo (CBA) para sediar competições de várias categorias de automobilismo mundial, inclusive as populares provas de arrancada.
