- Die Auergesellschaft war ursprünglich (Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts) ein Berliner Unternehmen zur Herstellung von Gas-Glühstrümpfen und Metallfadenlampen. Am Gründungsstandort in Berlin-Friedrichshain wurden durch Nachfolgeunternehmen noch bis 1992 Leuchtmittel produziert. Nach 1920 hat sich die Auergesellschaft einen weltweiten Ruf als Hersteller von Pressluft-Atemschutzgeräten für Feuerwehren erworben und gehört heute als MSA – The Safety Company zum amerikanischen MSA-Safety-Konzern (Mine Safety Appliances). Am Standort Berlin werden neben Feuerwehr- und anderer Schutzausrüstung auch Gaswarngeräte und Prüfröhrchen entwickelt und produziert. (de)

Up to the end of World War II, Auergesellschaft had manufacturing and research activities in the areas of gas mantles, luminescence, rare earths, radioactivity, and uranium and thorium compounds. In 1934, the corporation was acquired by the German corporation Degussa. In 1939, their Oranienburg plant began the development of industrial-scale, high-purity uranium oxide production. Special Soviet search teams, at the close of World War II, sent Auergesellschaft equipment, material, and staff to the Soviet Union for use in their nuclear weapon project. In 1958 Auergesellschaft merged with the Mine Safety Appliances Corporation, a multinational US corporation. Auergesellschaft became a limited corporation in 1960. (en)

Jusqu'à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Auergesellschaft effectuait de la recherche dans les domaines des manchons à incandescence, de la luminescence, des terres rares, de la radioactivité et des composés de l'uranium et du thorium. En 1934, la société est rachetée par la société allemande Degussa. En 1939, leur usine d'Oranienbourg commence la production à l'échelle industrielle d'oxyde d'uranium à haute pureté. À la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Auergesellschaft envoie de l'équipement, du matériel et du personnel en Union soviétique pour développer leur projet d'arme nucléaire.
