- The athletics competition at the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held in New Delhi, India between 6 and 14 October. The track and field events took place between 6–12 October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium while the marathon contests were held on a street course running through the city on 14 October. A total of 46 athletics events were contested, which made it the sport with the second greatest number of medals on offer after the aquatics competition. The programme was almost identical to that of the 2006 edition, with the sole exception being the men's 50 km race walk, which was dropped. As in 2006, three men's and three women's disability athletics events were contested alongside the open competition. Each of the Commonwealth Games Associations could send a maximum of three participants per event and a team of six for relay events. Kenya topped the medal table, with eleven gold medals and 29 medals in total. This was the first time that the nation achieved the feat, beating the typically dominant nations Australia (eleven golds, but 20 overall) and England (seven golds, 26 medals). Canada and Jamaica rounded out the top five while hosts India enjoyed their greatest ever haul at the Games, taking home two golds and twelve medals altogether. Four failed doping tests have so far been announced: Nigerian Oludamola Osayomi was stripped of the women's 100 m title, and her compatriot Samuel Okon, a 110 m hurdler, was also disqualified. Both athletes tested positive for methylhexanamine. , India's representative in the women's 20 km walk, was the third athlete to fail a test as 19-Norandrosterone was detected in her sample. Osayomi's 100 m stripped gold initially went to Sally Pearson of Australia but a delay in the appeals process saw Pearson disqualified for a false start some time after the race. Folashade Abugan of Nigeria tested positive for Testosterone prohormone following the final of the women's 400 metres. She was disqualified from the 400 metres and the Nigerian team, of which she was a member, were disqualified from the women's 4 x 400 metres relay where they had originally placed second. (en)

Les compétitions sur piste se déroulent du 6 au 12 octobre au Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, enceinte construite à l'occasion des Jeux asiatiques 2002 et rénovée pour les Jeux du Commonwealth de 2010. L'épreuve du marathon se déroule quant à elle le 14 octobre dans les rues de New Delhi. Le programme, qui comporte 46 épreuves (23 féminines et 23 masculines), est identique à l'édition 2006 à l'exception du 50 km marche masculin qui n'est pas intégré en 2010. Six épreuves d'athlétisme handisport (100 m, 1 500 m et lancer du poids) sont disputées par ailleurs. Depuis 2002, les épreuves handisport sont pleinement intégrées aux Jeux et comptent pour le tableau des médailles. Plusieurs athlètes de renom ne participent pas à l'édition 2010 de Jeux du Commonwealth. Parmi eux, la championne du monde sud-africaine Caster Semenya, les sprinteurs jamaïcains Usain Bolt et Asafa Powell, ou encore le Kényan David Rudisha. D'autres athlètes déclinent l'invitation peu avant le début de la compétition en invoquant des problèmes liés à la sécurité, à l'image du Britannique Phillips Idowu ou de l'Australienne Dani Samuels. Surprenant Kenya qui glane toujours plus de médailles lors des grands championnats, en témoigne sa position en tête du de ces championnats devant l'Australie qui avait remporté l'édition précédente en 2006 chez elle à Melbourne. La Jamaïque termine à une décevante 7e place (6e place après les disqualifications liées au dopage) avec seulement deux titres alors qu'elle avait fini seconde en 2006. L'Inde réalise également une belle compétition avec 11 médailles récoltées et une 6e place finale (devenu 5e place par la suite). (fr)

- Lekkoatletyka na Igrzyskach Wspólnoty Narodów 2010 – zawody lekkoatletyczne, które były rozgrywane na Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium w Nowym Delhi od 6 do 12 października. Poza głównym obiektem igrzysk na ulicach miasta, w rejonie Bramy Indii, 9 października odbył się chód sportowy, a 14 października została rozegrana rywalizacja w biegu maratońskim. Zwycięzca jedynego finału pierwszego dnia zmagań lekkoatletów – Moses Kipsiro jest pierwszym reprezentantem Ugandy, który wywalczył złoty medal Igrzysk Wspólnoty Narodów, a jego rezultat w biegu na 5000 metrów (13:31,25) jest najlepszym wynikiem uzyskanym kiedykolwiek w Indiach. Już po biegu zdyskwalifikowano za falstart zwyciężczynię biegu na 100 metrów – Australijkę Sally McLellan (11,28 s). Złoty medal przyznano drugiej na mecie Nigeryjce Oludamoli Osayomi, jednak u zawodniczki wykryto niedozwolony doping i odebrano jej medal. Już po zakończeniu zawodów ogłoszono, że niedozwolone środki wykryto także w organizmie nigeryjskiej biegaczki Folashade Abugan – została ona pozbawiona dwóch srebrnych medali (w biegu na 400 metrów oraz sztafecie 4 × 400 m). Nietypowy przebieg miał także finałowy bieg na 100 metrów mężczyzn – ówczesnemu wicemistrzowi Europy na tym dystansie, Markowi Lewis-Francisowi podczas startu odsunął się blok startowy. Brytyjczyk (mający we wszystkich czterech biegach reakcje startowe ok. 0,15 s) zdołał jednak wyprzedzić prawie wszystkich rywali i zdobyć srebrny medal. (pl)
