- Ein Aswang (oder Asuwang) ist ein Ghul, ein leichenfressendes Wesen, der philippinischen Mythologie. In anderen Gebieten ist der Aswang eine vampirähnliche Kreatur, die mit ihrer langen, dünnen und hohlen Zunge die Babys im Mutterleib einer schlafenden Schwangeren aussaugt. Der Mythos des Aswang ist besonders in den Regionen der westlichen Visayas verbreitet. Zudem wird erzählt, dass diese Wesen gerne kleine Kinder verspeisen sollen. The aswang is the subject of a wide variety of myths, stories, arts, and films, as it is well known throughout the Philippines. Spanish colonists noted that the aswang was the most feared among the mythical creatures of the Philippines, even in the 16th century. Although with no specific motive other than harming others, their behavior can be interpreted as an inversion of the traditional Filipino's values. - L'aswang è un serpente-mannaro delle Filippine che secondo la leggenda si presenta di giorno come una donna molto bella, mentre di notte sarebbe uno spaventoso demone alato con corpo di lupo dalla lingua lunga come il serpente. Vive dunque una vita normale durante le ore solari, mentre di notte stormi di uccelli notturni lo guidano verso le sue prede. Il suo nutrimento principale, come tutti i vampiri è il sangue, preferendo solitamente quello animale. Il mostro si riconosce per l'aspetto gonfio che assume dopo essersi nutrito, apparendo quasi incinto. Il mito vuole che se l'aswang sfiora l'ombra di qualcuno, questi avrà vita breve.
