- Anticyclonic rotation, or anticyclonic circulation, is atmospheric motion in the direction opposite to a planet's rotation. For Earth, this motion is in a clockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. For large-scale weather systems, greater than approximately 500 km (310 mi), anticyclonic rotation only occurs for high-pressure systems. This is due to how the Coriolis effect acts on high-pressure systems. Large, low-pressure systems, such as tropical cyclones, have cyclonic rotation. Small scale rotating atmospheric features, such as tornadoes, water spouts, and dust devils can have either anticyclonic or cyclonic rotation, since the direction of their spin depends on local forces rather than the Coriolis effect. - Anticyclonale circulatie of beweging is een stroming in de tegengestelde richting van de draairichting van de aarde. Dit komt voor bij zowel wind als bij zeestromen. Bij luchtstromingen is sprake van anticyclonale circulatie bij een hogedrukgebied. Volgens de wet van Buys Ballot is deze op het noordelijk halfrond met de klok mee, op het zuidelijk halfrond tegen de klok in. Door de corioliskracht heeft de windrichting namelijk op het noordelijk halfrond een afwijking naar rechts en op het zuidelijk halfrond een afwijking naar links ten opzichte van de richting van de afname van de luchtdruk.De wegstromende lucht moet in de kern aangevuld worden van boven. Deze dalende lucht warmt op, waardoor de luchtvochtigheid afneemt en eventuele bewolking oplost. (nl)
