The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the AIA offers education, government advocacy, community redevelopment, and public outreach to support the architecture profession and improve its public image. The AIA also works with other members of the design and construction community to help coordinate the building industry. The AIA is currently headed by Lakisha Ann Woods, CAE, as EVP/Chief Executive Officer and Dan Hart, FAIA, as 2022 AIA President.

Der Hauptsitz des AIA befindet sich seit 1898 im historischen Octagon House in Washington, D.C. Neben der Durchführung zahlreicher Programme und Aktivitäten zur Förderung des Berufsstandes vergibt das AIA regelmäßig Ehrungen und Auszeichnungen, darunter die AIA Gold Medal und den Architecture Firm Award. So dürfen beispielsweise nur Architekten, die gesetzlich befugt sind, in den Vereinigten Staaten als Architekt zu arbeiten, die Bezeichnung AIA – Licensed Architect führen. Ansonsten führen sie als Mitglied die Bezeichnung Fellow of the AIA (FAIA; dt.: Mitglied der AIA). Hinzu kommen die Lizenzanwärter als Associate Members und Angehörige anderer Berufsgruppen (Bauingenieure usw.) als Allied Members. Letztere können auf Wunsch zwischen der rein lokalen oder der nationalen Mitgliedschaft in der AIA wählen. Da es keine nationale Kategorie für Studenten in der AIA gibt, schließen sich viele davon den lokalen „Components“ der AIA oder der Organisation American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) an.
