- Absu je americká metalová kapela z města Plano v Texasu, která se zformovala v roce 1989 (původně pod názvem Dolmen, poté Azathoth, Eternus a Necrotic). Názvem Absu se honosí od roku 1991, ten vychází ze ze slova Abzu a odkazuje na podzemní oceán. Její členové nazývají svou tvorbu jako mytologický okultní metal, nicméně v počátcích hrála death metal, později směs thrash metalu a black metalu. Debutní studiové album s názvem vyšlo v roce 1993. Op 27 januari 2020 heeft Absu aangekondigd na drie decennia uit elkaar te gaan middels onderstaande tekst: "After meager deliberation and zero remorse, I have decided to dissolve Absu after three decades of existence. Collectively and universally speaking, this decision is finite due to insoluble circumstances, which has led to this ultimate result. No amount of time, exertion, formula or fashion can alter my verdict." In juni dat jaar heeft Emperor Proscriptor Magicus McGovern de band daadwerkelijk opgeheven ten behoeve van zijn soloproject Proscriptor McGovern's Absû. (nl)

O Absu surgiu como uma banda de death Metal e com o passar dos anos assumiu uma postura black metal e thrash metal, incluindo elementos de folk e celta (e posteriormente, elementos de jazz fusion, progressive rock e música psicodélica) com a banda rotulando a si mesma como "Mythological Occult Metal". As temas líricos abordam esoterismo, incluindo temas de mitos e lendas dos celtas, sumérios e mesopotâmicos, alquimia, numerologia, magia e feitiçaria. Fez uma turnê no Brasil em novembro e 2012, turnê esta muito aguardada pelo público brasileiro devido ao cancelamento dos shows que aconteceriam em março do mesmo ano e foram adiados para novembro devido a problemas com os vistos da banda.
