- The 1988 Chilean telethon was the eighth version of the solidarity campaign conducted in Chile, which took place on 2 and 3 December 1988. The theme of this version was "It's Everybody's Task," and the official theme song Soy tu amigo (I'm your friend), was sung by and Cecilia Echenique. The poster boy was Rodrigo Caceres, who is remembered for having memorized all the companies sponsoring the event. The morning newscast was in charge of Radio Cooperativa, they therefore resorted to the announcer Sergio Campos, for the first time, on television. He read the news as if he was in a radio studio. One of the stories of this edition was that the children's section of the programme was issued fully recorded, unlike previous years. This campaign initially seemed likely to fail, the slowness of the Chileans to donate made the program directors lengthen the schedule by about 1 hour, thus giving time to reach the goal at 0030 on Sunday, 4 December. The amount collected was: CL$ 525,801,100 later after the telethon ended the figure of CL$ 711,712,019 was reached The telethon was held two months after the well-remembered and historic plebiscite of 5 October that year and was the last telethon which took place under the military government of Augusto Pinochet. - La Teletón 1988 fue la octava versión de la campaña solidaria realizada en Chile, que se efectuó los días 2 y 3 de diciembre en el Teatro Teletón. El lema de esta versión fue «Es tarea de todos», y el himno la canción "Soy tu amigo", cantado por un dúo que fue formado por Miguel Zabaleta y Cecilia Echenique. El niño símbolo fue Rodrigo Cáceres, quien es recordado por haberse aprendido de memoria todas las empresas auspiciadoras del evento. El bloque del noticiero matinal estuvo a cargo de Radio Cooperativa, por lo cual se recurrió al locutor Sergio Campos, para que, por primera vez en televisión abierta, leyera las noticias como si fuera en un locutorio radial. Una de las anécdotas de esta campaña, fue que el bloque infantil de la cruzada se emitiera totalmente grabado, a diferencia de años anteriores. Esta campaña estuvo al borde del fracaso. La lentitud de los chilenos en donar hizo que los directores alargaran el programa en aproximadamente 1 hora para así poder llegar a la meta, lo cual solo se concretó a las 00:30 horas del domingo 4 de diciembre: $ 525 801 100 (US$ 2 154 922). Días después se entregó la cifra final que alcanzó a los $ 711 712 019 (US$ 2 916 852). Fue la última Teletón que se realizó bajo la dictadura militar de Augusto Pinochet. (es)
