Va ser superintendent de música del duc de Borbó, i mestre de capella de les catedrals de i . Cantà durant cert temps a l'Òpera, teatre en el que estrenà les òperes de la seva composició:

* Les plaisirs de la Paix (1715). A més, va compondre diferents cantates i altres obres executades en els palaus dels grans senyors de la cort, de les quals se'n coneixen:

He was maître de chapelle at Toul Cathedral, then Strasbourg Cathedral before employment from 1707 until 1711 at the Opéra de Paris as a singer. He worked in the service of the Duke of Bourbon between 1715 and 1721, after which he became the director of the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels (1722-1724). This appointment was the start of the era of his professional life in which he travelled from one city to the next, taking him to Lille, Lyons, Poitiers, Dijon, Belgium and the Netherlands. Little is known about the last years of his life. He died in poverty in Paris. Bourgeois mainly wrote cantatas, ballets, and divertissements. (en)

Bourgeois was kapelmeester aan de Kathedraal van Toul en later aan de Kathedraal van Straatsburg. Van 1707 tot 1711 was hij zanger aan de Opéra de Paris. Tussen 1715 en 1721 was de componist in dienst van de hertog van Bourbon. Na deze functie werd hij van 1722 tot 1724 aangesteld als directeur van de koninklijke Muntschouwburg te Brussel. Deze aanstelling was het begin van de periode in Bourgeois’ loopbaan waarin hij van stad naar stad zou reizen om er telkens kortdurige functies op te nemen. Zo werkte hij in Rijsel, Lyon, Poitiers, België en Nederland. Er is maar weinig geweten over de laatste jaren van zijn leven. Hij stierf in armoede te Parijs. Bourgeois componeerde voornamelijk cantates, balletten en divertissements. (nl)
