- A Shoggoth on the Roof is a parody of the 1964 musical Fiddler on the Roof based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft. Published by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society, it is credited to a member of the society who is referred to only as "He Who (for legal reasons) Must Not Be Named". In a fictional backstory created by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society, A Shoggoth on the Roof was originally attempted by The Other Gods Theatre Company in 1979 in Los Angeles. The production was abandoned for reasons that are not entirely clear. The H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society have a mockumentary of this production on their website. The musical makes use of Fiddler on the Roof's original score. As a result, attempts to stage A Shoggoth on the Roof are open to legal challenges and hence rare. (en)

Lovecraft Historical Society, prétendument écrite par un membre de cette société sous le nom de « Celui Qui (pour des raisons légales) Ne Doit Pas Être Nommé » dans le livret et sur l’album de fonte (allusion à Hastur, Celui Qui Ne Doit Pas Être Nommé). Pour des raisons légales, les représentations successives d’Un shoggoth sur le toit se heurtèrent a de grandes difficultés. Cependant une première mise en scène eu lieu, dans une version suédoise (En shoggoth på taket) à Miskatonicon, une convention d’amateurs d’H. P. Lovecraft à Stockholm, le 4 novembre 2005 par le . La pièce fut jouée pour la première fois en anglais lors d’une convention de jeux vidéo, Leprecon, en Irlande le 23 février 2007. La représentation était organisée par la Gamers Society du Trinity College de Dublin. Ils outrepassèrent les problèmes légaux en relation avec la propriété intellectuelle d’Un violon sur le toit en utilisant un arrangement musical complètement nouveau. (fr)
