In the legends of the Ylfing Helgi Hundingsbane, he was the son of king Granmar of Södermanland, and he was killed by Helgi. The Chronicon Lethrense and included Annales Lundenses relate that Hother was the king of the Saxons and son of Hothbrod, whom Helghe had killed to win all of Denmark. Hother first slew Othen's (i.e. Odin) son Balder in battle and then chased Othen and Thor. Finally, Othen's son Both killed Hother. Según Heimskringla del escaldo islandés Snorri Sturluson, el rey sueco Granmar de Södermanland tenía dos hijos, pero la leyenda sobre el héroe Helgi Hundingsbane cita a tres varones: Hothbrodd, Gudmund y Starkad, los tres muertos bajo la hoja del acero de Helgi. Es posible que la leyenda de Helgi mencione a otro rey Granmar, ya que mientras el primero se refiere a un caudillo del siglo V, Ingjald y el resto pertenecen al siglo VII.
