Spica diambil dari nama bintang yang paling terang pada rasi bintang Virgo. KRI Spica dengan nomor lambung 934 dan resmi meluncur 3 Agustus 2015 lalu dari Les Sables-d'Olonne, Prancis. KRI Spica-934 memiliki panjang 60 meter ditenagai dua mesin diesel 8V 4000 M53 untuk dua propeller. Kapal ini dapat melaju hingga kecepatan maksimum 14 knots. Sementara untuk jarak jelajahnya mencapai 4.400 nautical mile pada kecepatan 12 knots. Kapal ini mampu menghadapi gelombang laut sampai level sea state six. KRI Spica-934 dapat menampung 30 awak dan 16 personel tambahan. Kapal BHO terbaru TNI AL ini mampu berlayar terus-menerus selama 20 hari. Secara asasi KRI Spica-934 berfungsi sebagai kapal riset dan survei, tetapi demikian juga dapat menjalankan peran sebagai kapal patroli, sebab KRI Spica-934 dibekali meriam PSU Rheinmetall kaliber 20 mm pada haluan, serta dua pucuk SMB (senapan mesin berat) M2HB kaliber 12,7 mm di geladak buritan. Sebagai elemen inti dari fitur kapal ini adalah perlengkapan penunjang misi oseanografi. Seperti KRI Rigel-933 dilengkapi perangkat single beam echo sounder jenis Kongsberg’s EA600 dan multibeam systems EM2040 dan EM302. Lebih canggih lagi, setiap OSV dibekali Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) tipe Kongsberg Maritime’s Hugin 1000. Perangkat yang kerap disebut ROV (remotely operated vehicle) ini sanggup mengemban misi survei bawah air hingga kedalaman 1.000 meter. (in)
