Plymouth war eine Automobilmarke, die in den Vereinigten Staaten gegründet und durch die Chrysler Corporation und DaimlerChrysler von 1928 bis 2001 vermarktet wurde. Plymouth was a brand of automobiles produced by Chrysler Corporation and its successor DaimlerChrysler. The brand was launched in 1928 to compete in what was then described as the "low-priced" market segment that was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford. It became a high-volume seller for the automaker until the late 1990s. Plymouth cars were marketed primarily in the United States. The brand was withdrawn from the marketplace in 2001. The Plymouth models that were produced up to then were either discontinued or rebranded as Chrysler or Dodge. Företagsledaren Walter P. Chrysler insåg att hans företag också behövde tillverka bilar för den breda publiken. 1928 presenterade han därför bilmärket Plymouth. Namnet kommer från den i amerikansk historia välkända , där resenärerna på det engelska pilgrimsfartyget Mayflower landsteg 1620. Ursprungligen hade Plymouth också ett segelfartyg som kylarprydnad för att symbolisera detta. Bilen med en fyrcylindrig motor blev snabbt mycket populär, och efter bara ett fåtal år kom den att vara USA:s, och därmed världens, tredje mest sålda bil, med en årlig produktion på över 300 000 bilar. Bilen fick sexcylindrig motor 1933, medan V8-motor inte introducerades förrän 1955. Com a grande falta de carros em linha da Plymouth e com o isolamento dela, em junho de 2001 suas ações foram encerradas. O último Plymouth, o Neon, teve um total de 38.657 veículos produzidos. Hoje, há muitos fãs dos clássicos Plymouths dos anos 70, 80 e 90, destes muitos ainda pedindo suas réplicas.
