- IJsbrand Chardon (born 2 January 1961) is a Dutch equestrian and multiple World Champion at the World Equestrian Games. Chardon competes in the driving disciplines and became World Champion for the first time in 1988, when he won the gold medal in the individual event in Apeldoorn. Two years later he added his second world title, this time in the team event in Stockholm 1990. In , Germany another two years later he won his second individual gold, this time in the Four-in-Hand World Championships. In his own country during the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague, he added two bronze medals from both the team and individual disciplines. In Rome 1998 he was unable to equal his individual bronze, finishing fourth, but with his team mates he won yet another World title, his third in his career. He went on to succeed in the sport when he added two silver medals to his tally at the 2000 Four-in-Hand World Championships in Wolfsburg. His best career achievement came in 2002 when he won two World Championships titles in one season, winning both the team and individual events at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera. Four years later in 2006 he could not defend his titles, but won a silver medal as an individual and a bronze with his team. Prior to that result he had won a silver in the team and bronze medal in the individual race at the Four-in-Hand World Championships in Kecskemét 2004. Chardon also won 19 Dutch national titles (1983, 1986, 1988 to 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006), two FEI World Cups (2004–05, 2005–06) and two times the FEI Top Driver Award (1997, 2003, 2nd in 2004). Il remporte le titre mondial en individuel en 1988, 1992, 2002 et 2008, termine deuxième en 1986, 2000, 2004, 2006 et 2010 et troisième en 1990, 1994 et 2012. - IJsbrand Chardon (Den Hoorn, 2 januari 1961) is een Nederlands menner. Hij behoort al jarenlang tot de wereldtop bij het vierspanrijden. Al bij zijn eerste wereldkampioenschap, in 1982 in Apeldoorn, won hij een gouden teammedaille. Daarna wist hij een imposante verzameling eremetaal binnen te halen, waarin de kleur goud overheerst. Chardon werd veertien maal wereldkampioen, tien maal met het Nederlands team en vier maal individueel (1988, 1992, 2002 en 2008) . In totaal werd hij zevenentwintig keer Nederlands kampioen, van 1988 t/m 2002 zelfs ononderbroken. In 2011 en 2017 werd hij individueel Europees kampioen en hij haalde vijf Europese titels met het Nederlands team. Ook won Chardon dertien keer het CHIO van Aken. Daarmee is hij de meest succesvolle deelnemer van dit prestigieuze toernooi. Op de wereldruiterspelen 2002 in Jerez de la Frontera won Chardon twee wereldtitels, zowel met het Nederlands team als individueel. Vier jaar later in Aken, behaalde hij zilver in het eindklassement. Dit resultaat was het gevolg van een tweede plaats in de dressuur, een eerste plaats in de marathon en een teleurstellende vijftiende plaats bij de vaardigheid doordat er één balletje werd afgereden. Met het team haalde hij wel de eerste plaats tijdens de Wereldruiterspelen 2010. In februari 2016 claimde hij de FEI Wereldbeker vierspannen van het 15e seizoen. Naast zijn professionele sportbeoefening is IJsbrand Chardon eigenaar van een manegebedrijf in Den Hoorn. Zijn zoon trad in de voetsporen van zijn vader en werd in 2019 Europees Kampioen en in 2022 Nederlands Kampioen. (nl)
