- The Sanremo Music Festival 2014 (64° Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo 2014) was the 64th annual Sanremo Music Festival, a televised song contest held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, Liguria, between 18 and 22 February 2014 and broadcast by Rai 1.Fabio Fazio and Italian comedy actress Luciana Littizzetto presented the show, which was based on the same rules adopted for the previous contest. Competing artists were split in two different sections—Big Artists and Newcomers. The Big Artists section included 14 established Italian artists. During the first and the second night of the show, each act performed two songs, and only one song per act was allowed to continue the competition, as a result of votes received by public and journalists. After the third night, Riccardo Sinigallia's entry, "Prima di andare via", was disqualified for being performed during a concert preceding the competition. During the final night, Arisa's "Controvento" was announced as the winning song for the Big Artists section of the contest.The Newcomers' section featured eight songs performed by debuting or little known artists. The winning entry, Rocco Hunt's "Nu juorno buono", was announced during the semi-final of the contest. For the first time since Italy returned to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, the Sanremo Music Festival was not used as a selection for the Italian entry at the European contest. The show featured guests including Luciano Ligabue, Cat Stevens, Damien Rice, Paolo Nutini, Stromae, Gino Paoli, Raffaella Carrà, Laetitia Casta and Rufus Wainwright. Despite this, it received significantly lower ratings than the previous edition, with the final receiving the lowest share percentage since the introduction of Auditel measurements in 1989. (en)
- Il sessantaquattresimo Festival di Sanremo si è svolto presso il Teatro Ariston di Sanremo dal 18 al 22 febbraio 2014 ed è stato presentato da Fabio Fazio e Luciana Littizzetto, entrambi alla seconda conduzione consecutiva dell'evento. La direzione artistica è stata curata dallo stesso Fazio, la direzione musicale e dell'orchestra da Mauro Pagani, la scenografia è stata disegnata da Emanuela Trixie Zitkowsky e la regia è stata affidata a Duccio Forzano. Vi hanno partecipato 22 artisti con 36 brani divisi in due sezioni: Campioni (composta da 14 artisti noti) e Nuove proposte (composta da 8 artisti emergenti). La vincitrice dell'evento nella sezione Campioni è stata Arisa (già vincitrice della sezione Nuove proposte nel 2009) con il brano Controvento, mentre nella sezione Nuove proposte ha vinto Rocco Hunt con la canzone Nu juorno buono, primo brano hip hop ad aggiudicarsi l'evento. Il Premio della Critica "Mia Martini" è stato vinto da Cristiano De André con Invisibili per la categoria Campioni e da Zibba con Senza di te per la categoria Nuove proposte. Per la prima — e finora unica — volta da quando l'Italia è tornata a parteciparvi, il rappresentante nazionale per l'Eurovision Song Contest non è stato scelto tra gli artisti in gara al Festival di Sanremo ma si è ricorso a una selezione interna effettuata direttamente dalla Rai tramite un'apposita commissione: la scelta è ricaduta sulla cantante Emma, che ha partecipato all'edizione di quell'anno con il brano La mia città, classificandosi infine al 21º posto. Quest'edizione, televisivamente parlando, si è rivelata un "flop": con il 39,26% di share, infatti, è risultata la terza edizione meno vista di sempre dopo quelle del 2008 e del 2004, anche se, a differenza di queste due, non è stata battuta negli ascolti da nessun altro programma. La serata finale è stata addirittura la meno vista di sempre tra tutte le serate finali da quando il Festival è rilevato dalle misurazioni Auditel. (it)
