- The following is a list of awards and nominations received by American actor Jeff Daniels throughout his career. He made his film debut in Miloš Forman's drama Ragtime (1981), and continued to work regularly throughout the 1980s to 1990s in James L. Brooks' Terms of Endearment (1983), Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Mike Nichols' Heartburn (1986) as well as the war epic Gettysburg (1993) and the action film Speed (1994). He found great success in his role in the comedy Dumb and Dumber (1994) opposite Jim Carrey. Daniels soon became known as a leading man often known for playing likable, honest and trustworthy characters on stage and screen. He has received five Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his work on television, winning twice for playing Will McAvoy in The Newsroom (2013), and as the villain in the western limited series Godless (2018). He also has received three Tony Award nominations for Best Actor in a Play for his performances in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage (2009), David Harrower's Blackbird (2016), and Sorkin's To Kill a Mockingbird (2018). For his performances in both film and television he has received five Golden Globe Award nominations. He has also received five Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for his work in film and television as well. Daniels has worked with frequent collaborator Aaron Sorkin in the HBO series The Newsroom (2013-2015), the film Steve Jobs (2015) playing John Scully, and the Broadway play To Kill a Mockingbird (2018–present) playing Atticus Finch.
