- Die Gruppe A bezeichnet im Tourenwagen-Sport eine ganz bestimmte Bearbeitungsstufe der Fahrzeuge ab den 1980ern bis heute. In der Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft wurde seit 1998 eine Abwandlung der Gruppe-A-Fahrzeuge namens World Rally Car (WRC) eingesetzt, welche sich seit der Saison 2011 am Super-2000-Reglement orientiert. Diese Bearbeitungsstufen wurden von der FIA eingeteilt – und zwar nach Gruppe N, A, B usw. Von diesen Gruppen war die Gruppe N die „mildeste“ Tuningstufe. In der nächstfreieren Gruppe A dürfen alle Serienteile bearbeitet werden. Das bedeutet, dass Schwungrad, Pleuel und Kurbelwelle unbegrenzt erleichtert, poliert und durch Wärmebehandlung nachgehärtet werden dürfen. Die Nockenwelle, Kolben und diverse andere Teile sind freigestellt. Auch das äußere Erscheinungsbild der Fahrzeuge bleibt weitgehend unverändert. Die Kotflügel dürfen umgebördelt, aber nicht verbreitert werden. Eine Ausnahme bilden sogenannte Kit-Cars, bei denen eine homologierte Verbreiterung zum Bausatz (Kit) gehört. Am Fahrwerk ist der Austausch von Stoßdämpfern und Federn erlaubt. Die technischen Ausgangsdaten stehen im Gruppe-A-Homologationsblatt. - Group A is a set of motorsport regulations administered by the FIA covering production derived vehicles intended for competition, usually in touring car racing and rallying. In contrast to the short-lived Group B and Group C, Group A vehicles were limited in terms of power, weight, allowed technology and overall cost. Group A was aimed at ensuring numerous entries in races of privately owned vehicles. Group A was introduced by the FIA in 1982 to replace the outgoing Group 2 as "modified touring cars", while Group N would replace Group 1 as "standard touring cars". During the early years there were no further formula for production based race cars. Cars from multiple Groups could contest the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers for example until 1997 when the specific World Rally Car formula was introduced as the only option. In recent years Groups A and N have begun to be phased out in eligibility in championships though they continue to form the homologation basis for most production based race car formulae including the Groups Rally which must first be homologated in Group A. Both Groups N and A, and the details of their differences are described in the FIAs International Sporting Code and several of its Appendices J articles. (en)

- In relazione agli sport automobilistici gestiti dalla FIA, il Gruppo A - definito "vetture da turismo di grande produzione" - comprende auto che derivano, con una serie di modifiche, dalla produzione di serie. Contrariamente al Gruppo B e al Gruppo C entrambi di breve durata, il Gruppo A fa riferimento ai veicoli derivati dalla produzione di serie limitati in termini di potenza, peso, tecnologia permessa ed il costo generale. La costituzione di codesta categoria ha come scopo di consentire l'ingresso di numerosi piloti privati nelle corse. Il Gruppo A fu introdotto dalla FIA nel 1982 per sostituire il precedente Gruppo 2 come "automobili da turismo modificate", come il Gruppo N sostituì il Gruppo 1 come "automobili da turismo standard".
