- Zacapoaxtla (del náhuatl: zacat, pohuat, tla ‘zacate, contar, lugar’‘Lugar donde abunda el zacate’) es una población del estado mexicano de Puebla, cabecera de uno de los 217 municipios que conforman al estado. Se localiza en la parte norte del estado, cuyas coordenadas geográficas son los paralelos 19º44'18” y 19º59'18” de latitud Norte, y los meridianos 97º31'42” y 97º37'54” de longitud Oeste. La población total del municipio de acuerdo al Censo de Población y Vivienda del INEGI es de 53,295 habitantes, de los cuales 25,534 son hombres y 27,761 son mujeres (2010). Es la entrada a la sierra nororiental del estado de Puebla, de gran importancia económica por la actividad comercializadora de los productores y campesinos de toda la región. The city has a population of 8,062 inhabitants, while the municipality has 49,242 inhabitants at the 2000 census. The name means place where straw is counted, and it originates from Nahuatl roots: zacatl – straw; pohuatl – to count; and tlān – place. The name comes from the tribute people had to pay, i.e. as bales of straw. The BUAP has a Regional Section there, which offers degrees in law, business administration and psychology. (en)
