El disco posee varias canciones pertenecientes al Power metal como es el caso de Wishmaster (inspirada en los libros de Tolkien y las novelas de Dragonlance) y She is My Sin, destacable obra maestra de la banda. Dato curioso es que el tema Dead Boy's Poem se llamó originalmente "Long-Forgotten" y que FantasMic trata sobre las películas animadas de Disney. (es)

Wishmaster est un album qui délaisse le chant masculin présent sur Oceanborn et Angels Fall First. Mais la chanson The Kinslayer bénéficie de passage narratif, conté par Ike Vil, du groupe Babylon Whores. Un jeune garçon, Sam Hardwick, conte les passages narratifs de Dead Boy's Poem. The Kinslayer est une chanson qui s'inspire de la fusillade de Columbine, événement qui a marqué le compositeur principal du groupe, Tuomas Holopainen. Deep Silent Complete est le seul single de cet album, aucun clip n'a été tourné pour cette chanson. Sleepwalker, bonus track de Wishmaster, est le titre interprété par Nightwish pour représenter la Finlande à l'Eurovision en 2000. Malgré un avis favorable du public, Nightwish est refusé par le jury. Ce disque contient une plage CD-Rom/multimédia, sur laquelle figure le clip de Sleeping Sun. Wishmaster has sold more than 79,000 copies in Finland alone. In 2019, Metal Hammer ranked it as the 18th best power metal album of all time.
