- Eine Wallcloud ist eine mehr oder weniger isolierte Absenkung unter dem niederschlagsarmen Aufwindbereich einer Schauer- oder Gewitterwolke (Cumulonimbus), aus der sich manchmal ein Tornado entwickelt. Sie befindet sich typischerweise unterhalb des niederschlagsfreien Bereiches der Schauer- oder Gewitterzelle und markiert den Bereich mit dem kräftigsten Aufwind, der sich bei einer Superzelle typischerweise am südlichen oder südwestlichen Ende derselben befindet. Die Wallcloud kann zwischen einem Bruchteil eines Kilometers und über 8 Kilometern breit sein.Manche Wallclouds weisen eine Rotation auf, was ein Indiz für einen rotierenden Aufwind, eine Mesozyklone, ist. Solche rotierenden Wallclouds entwickeln sich meist wenige Minuten bis fast eine Stunde vor starken Tornados und rotieren typischerweise zyklonal. Daher werden insbesondere rotierende Wallclouds als Warnzeichen für Tornados betrachtet. Sie ist mittlerweile als eigene Sonderform im Internationalen Wolkenatlas unter dem Namen "Murus" eingetragen. - Le mur de nuages ou nuage-mur, appelé wall cloud en anglais, est un renflement nuageux en forme de piédestal sous un orage. Il indique la position du courant ascendant dans le nuage et il est souvent associé avec une rotation de l'air entrant dans ce dernier. On peut donc retrouver une tornade près de cet appendice nuageux. On le retrouve donc le plus souvent sous un cumulonimbus mais parfois sous un cumulus bourgeonnant. Selon la nouvelle version de l'Atlas international des nuages qui était en préparation en 2016 et qui fut publiée en mars 2017, le nom officiel est devenu murus. Il convient de distinguer ce mur de nuage de la barrière de nuages (ou nuage étagé), un des types d'arcus que l'on retrouve sur la bordure avant de l'orage et qui ressemble lui aussi à un mur. (fr)

Występuje w postaci obniżenia poniżej wolnej od opadów podstawy chmury cumulus lub częściej cumulonimbus. Chmura ta zaznacza strefę głównego prądu wznoszącego, który zasysa chłodne i wilgotne powietrze z prądu zstępującego, kondensujące się na wysokości mniejszej niż podstawa chmury.
