- La Resolució 1204 del Consell de Seguretat de les Nacions Unides, adoptada per unanimitat el 30 d'octubre de 1998 després de reafirmar totes les resolucions anteriors del Sàhara Occidental, el Consell va ampliar el mandat de la Missió de Nacions Unides pel Referèndum al Sàhara Occidental (MINURSO) fins al 17 de desembre de 1998. El Consell de Seguretat va reiterar el seu compromís de trobar una solució duradora al conflicte del Sàhara Occidental i la seva determinació de celebrar un referèndum sobre l'autodeterminació per al poble del territori d'acord amb el que tant el Marroc com el Front Polisario havien acceptat. Es va demanar a ambdues parts que permetessin a l'Alt Comissionat de les Nacions Unides per als Refugiats (ACNUR) realitzar treballs preparatoris per a la repatriació dels refugiats saharians elegibles per votar. A més, es va demanar que acceptessin un paquet de mesures relatives al procés d'apel·lacions, el paper de l'ACNUR i les futures etapes del Pla de Regularització a mitjans de novembre de 1998. La resolució lamenta que la unitat de suport tècnic encara no estigui plenament operativa i demana la conclusió del que facilitaria el desplegament d'unitats militars al Sàhara Occidental. Va recolzar la intenció de la MINURSO de publicar les llistes de votants abans de l'1 de desembre de 1998 i un augment del personal de la Comissió d'Identificació de 18 a 25, així com del personal de suport necessari. - قرار مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة رقم 1204، المتخذ بالإجماع في 30 تشرين الأول / أكتوبر 1998، بعد إعادة تأكيد جميع القرارات السابقة بشأن مسألة الصحراء الغربية، مدد المجلس ولاية بعثة الأمم المتحدة للاستفتاء في الصحراء الغربية حتى 17 كانون الأول / ديسمبر 1998 . وكرر مجلس الأمن التزامه بإيجاد حل دائم للنزاع في الصحراء الغربية وتصميمه على إجراء استفتاء لتقرير المصير لشعب الإقليم وفقا لخطة التسوية التي وافق عليها المغرب وجبهة البوليساريو. وطُلب من كلا الطرفين السماح لمفوض الأمم المتحدة السامي لشؤون اللاجئين بالقيام بالأعمال التحضيرية لإعادة اللاجئين الصحراويين المؤهلين للتصويت. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، طُلب منهم الموافقة على مجموعة من التدابير المتعلقة بعملية الطعون، ودور مفوضية الأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين والمراحل المقبلة لخطة التسوية بحلول منتصف تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر 1998. وأعرب القرار عن أسفه لأن وحدة الدعم التقني ما زالت لا تعمل بكامل طاقتها ودعا إلى إبرام اتفاق بشأن وضع القوات من شأنه أن ييسر نشر الوحدات العسكرية في الصحراء الغربية. وأيد اعتزام البعثة نشر قوائم الناخبين بحلول 1 كانون الأول / ديسمبر 1998 وزيادة عدد الموظفين في لجنة تحديد الهوية من 18 إلى 25 فضلا عن أفراد الدعم اللازمين. - United Nations Security Council resolution 1204, adopted unanimously on 30 October 1998, after reaffirming all previous resolutions on the question of the Western Sahara, the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) until 17 December 1998. The Security Council reiterated its commitment to finding a lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara and its determination to hold a referendum on self-determination for the people of the territory in accordance with the Settlement Plan which both Morocco and the Polisario Front had accepted. Both parties were requested to allow the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to conduct preparatory work for the repatriation of Saharan refugees eligible to vote. Additionally they were asked to agree to a package of measures concerning the appeals process, the role of the UNHCR and the future stages of the Settlement Plan by mid-November 1998. The resolution regretted that the technical support unit was still not fully operational and called for the conclusion of a Status of Forces Agreement which would facilitate the deployment of military units in Western Sahara. It supported the intention of MINURSO to publish the voter lists by 1 December 1998 and an increase in staff at the Identification Commission from 18 to 25 as well as necessary support personnel.
