- قصة الحضارة (بالإنجليزية: The Story of Civilization) كتاب موسوعي تاريخي من تأليف الفيلسوف والمؤرخ الأمريكي ويل ديورانت وزوجته أريل ديورانت، يتكون من أحد عشر جزئا يتحدث فيه عن قصة جميع الحضارات البشرية منذ بدايتها وحتى القرن التاسع عشر ويتسم بالموضوعية، وبالمنهج العلمي. فهي موسوعة في فلسفة التاريخ، قضى مؤلفها عشرات السنين في إعدادها، فقرأ لذلك عشرات المؤلفات وطاف بجميع أرجاء العالم من شرقه إلى غربه أكثر من مرة. وحسب القارئ دليلا على الجهد الذي بذله في إعداد العدة لها أن يطلع على ثبت المراجع العامة والخاصة الذي أثبتناه في آخر كل جزء من هذه الأجزاء. وقد كان يعتزم في بادئ الأمر أن تكون هذه السلسلة في خمسة مجلدات، ولكن البحث تشعب والمادة كثرت فزادها إلى سبعة، ثم تجاوزت هذا العدد الذي قدره لها أخيراً فقررها في 11 مجلد.استمر في كتابته على مدار 40 عامًا من عام 1935 حتى عام 1975 والخلاصة أن هذه السلسلة ذخيرة علمية لا غنى عنها للمكتبة العربية ولعشاق التاريخ والأدب والعلم والفن والاجتماع وجميع مقومات الحضارة . - The Story of Civilization, karya suami istri Will dan , adalah sebuah kumpulan buku sebelas volume berisi sejarah Barat untuk pembaca umum. Volume ini laris terjual selama beberapa tahun dan beberapa di antaranya sering ditawarkan oleh klub pembaca buku. Seri ini ditulis selama lebih dari empat dasawarsa. Seri ini memiliki empat juga kata yang tersebar di 10.000 halaman, tetapi belum lengkap. Di volume pertama (Our Oriental Heritage, yang membahas sejarah Timur pada tahun 1933), Will Durant menyatakan bahwa ia ingin menyertakan sejarah Barat pada awal abad ke-20. Seri ini berakhir dengan The Age of Napoleon karena suami istri ini meninggal pada 1980-an, Ariel pada usia 80-an tahun dan Will pada usia 90-an tahun, sebelum mereka dapat menyelesaikan volume tambahannya. - The Story of Civilization (1935–1975), by husband and wife Will and Ariel Durant, is an 11-volume set of books covering both Eastern and Western civilizations for the general reader, with a particular emphasis on European (Western) history. The series was written over a span of four decades. The first six volumes of The Story of Civilization are credited to Will Durant alone, with Ariel recognized only in the acknowledgements. Beginning with The Age of Reason Begins, Ariel is credited as a co-author. In the preface to the first volume, Durant states his intention to make the series in 5 volumes, although this would not turn out to be the case. The series won a Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 with the 10th volume in the series, Rousseau and Revolution. The volumes sold well for many years, and sets of them were frequently offered by book clubs. An unabridged audiobook production of all eleven volumes was produced by the Books on Tape company and was read by Alexander Adams (also known as Grover Gardner). (en)
